Anyone have any trouble with the 7 round magazine in a 7+1 configuration? I've been having trouble with the slide sticking back after firing the first shot in this configuration and failing to feed the second round.

Everything else works flawlessly except for this one configuration. Kahr has offered to replace the magazine so I'll update this thread if that solves the problem but was just curious if anyone else has had this issue with the 7 round mag.

Also, here's the email I sent Kahr which gives a longer description. No gripes here, they've offered to replace the mag, I'm just wondering if others have had similar problems.

Dear Kahr Support,

I recently purchased a new PM9 and love it. It has been very reliable and I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. I do have one minor malfunction I'm trying to resolve and I'd like to ask your advice.

When using the 7 round magazine in a 7+1 configuration the slide will stick back after the first shot only. I say stick back because it's not locked all the way back where the slide release lever is activated, just stuck in a rearward position and won't feed the next round. Pressing up on the magazine releases the slide each time and properly feeds the next round. I was able to reproduce this malfunction about 15 times in a row, each time in a 7+1 configuration and with three different brands of FMJ ammunition. I tried a very firm grip, a normal grip, and one handed but the result was the same each time.

I have noticed that the 7 round magazine fits slightly different into the mag well than the 6 round mag. It's a little tighter when inserting where the 6 round mag slides right in. Since the pistol is working great in all other aspects I don't think there's anything wrong with it and I don't really want to send it in for service, I'm hoping it's just a magazine issue.

So, is this an issue you are familiar with and do you think that trying a different 7 round magazine would help?

My serial number is XXXXXX

Thank you!

Interesting. Well something is definitely wrong with the gun or mag. Kahrs (esp the smaller models) somethimes need about 400-500 rounds to be completely broken in. But if it's working with the 6 rounder the gun is probably broken in.

Is the follower cracked on the 7 round mag?

Also, when it malfunctions can you tap the back of the slide a bit (medium strength) and get it to chamber the round?

The follower appears to be in perfect shape. Funny you mention tapping the slide, yes you can tap it in but it requires a hard tap. However, just a light pressure on the bottom of the mag and it slides on home easily.

Does the 7 round mag have more wiggle room in and out when inserted and locked in the gun?

They feel the same.

Good chance you are tilting the 7 round mag when gripping the pistol. I don't have a problem with mine but if pressure is put against the front/bottom of the mag extention, the angle of the feed lips/follower to feed ramp will tilt down.
Is the round nose diving?

Yes it is nose diving. You know what its exactly like? It's the exact same thing that happens when you slingshot the slide to chamber a round instead of using the slide release as Kahr recommends.

My PM45 often does the same thing in 5+1 with 3 different mags and any kind of ammo (HP, FMJ, Powerball). Sometimes it wont even let a new mag go in all the way - the back edge of the casing gets stuck under the slide.  It almost seems that the slide doesn't go back far enough to allow the magazines to properly seat.  I found a temporary solution of pushing the top round slightly forward in the magazine, but in a worst-case/adrenaline scenario it is the last thing I want to be worrying about.  I've got a spot at the range this weekend and will hopefully be able to figure out if it needs to go back to Kahr or if it is something that I am doing wrong.

It is a PM45 bought new in June '08, and this problem has been intermittent, even after 2700 rounds.

I had a Glock 36 with +2 mag extensions. It would hang somewhere through the mag. My armorer didn't have a problem with it. Come to find out, I was squeezing the lower part of the mag, causing it to change the feed angle. Worked fine with stock mags.

I've never had an issue with my PM9 and either mag. FAct is I've never had any issues with the little 9.
