Who would y'all recommend for doing an action job on a Colt Python? I know many ppeople *could* do it, but I'd like it done right.

Thanks!

Jaybo,
there are quite a few smiths out there who do excellent work on colts, CYLINDER & SLIDE, MAG-NA-PORT, Also we see quite a few colts come thru our shop.

Thanks Ron! When I have the Python ready to go (and the money, of course) I'll keep you in mind.

I am not sure if he still does it, but try Walt Sherman in Tallahasee Florida. 850 area code. Walt invented the roller action for the Python as the head armorer for the FHP. The roller is a great thing in Python. It pulls through without stacking, then drops the hammer. I have had a couple, used to shoot steel matches. Whipping 3k rounds per month, forced me to have it timed every couple of months. But that is more shooting than most people. C&S may have copied the roller action, so if you cannot reach Walt, try C&S.

The action is also made for a Smith, but it is not the same and I personally do not like it.

Walt's #
(850) 878-9563

He can also do regular (non-roller) tune ups on the Pythons as well as barrel changes (if you can find the barrel)

Excellent! So he's still in business? He sounds like the fella I'm looking for!

As far as I know, he is still kicking...he got more into building custom rifles, but I am sure he has not forgotten how to do magic to the Snake!

Great! So would the roller action job be acceptable on a duty weapon? That's part of the idea behind the "resurrection," so if the standard action would be better for that, it has to be factored in...

Jaybo,
Just wondering what's wrong with your Pythons action job?  I've shot maybe 7 different ones and all of them had excellent trigger's.  Give Colt a call their custom shop might be able to fix it.

Well, truthfully, it's not so much that there's something wrong with it, per se, it's that the previous owner abused it. (See my post about the "Pitted Python" for the whole story on that.) Now, it may be that the only mistreatment was leaving it where it would rust as badly as it did, but it's not unreasonable to suspect possible damage to the internals, as well...

At any rate, since I'm planning on a whole pile of new parts and a new finish to correct the cosmetics, I figure I might as well go with a proper action job to finish up.
