So I just got back from the range with my gen3 Glock 23, the gun has roughly 1500 rounds through it, and I was shooting Winchester white box 165 grain. Every few rounds I would have a round that wouldn't go off, I would eject the round and the primer would be struck. I could tell when it was going to happen because, the best way to describe it would be, I would fire a round and it would feel like the slide would stutter going back into battery. At first I was thinking that it was an ammo issue but the last few rounds it happened to after I ejected the round the primer looked like it had not been struck.I was going to completely disassemble the gun tonight, clean it and take it back to the range with a different box of ammo to see if it happens again.
Does anyone have any ideas of what could be causing this to happen? |
| Could very well be debris in the striker/firing pin channel. When my Dept. transitioned to Glocks we were instructed to keep the breach face pointed down when cleaning. Lube and solvents attract a lot of gunk in the channel for the striker and can impede ignition. It is also possible to get a light strike if the pistol is not completely in battery. If the pistol has been shot a lot I'd probably replace the recoil spring assembly, from past experience Glock 23's can experience failures with weak recoil springs. Glocks have tight chambers and do not like out of spec ammo which can keep the pistol from going into battery. |
