I have had a PT145 that I carry concealed on a regular bases. I took it to desert about 2 months ago. I put about 70 Winchester .45's through it (white box ones) and then I started noticing the slide was starting to lock back even though the mag was not empty. This proceeded to happen 2 more times as I finished off the 30 rounds left in the box.
I figured it was just because it was dirty. So I took it home and field stripped it and sprayed it out using some Gun Scrubber. I then used KleenBore's No 10 Solvent with some cotton patched/Q-tips to clean off as much black as I could possible find. I inspected the slide lock release as well and did not notice anything that looked abnormal but I also not a gunsmith. So I took it out to the desert again this time with some reloads and some Winchester SXZ rounds. Not only is it doing hte same thing with both types of ammo, it is doing it worse. I shot a total of 4 mags and it locked back almost a dozen times. Since this is my carry pistol I obviously cannot let this stand. I know Taurus has a lifetime warranty on the gun, is this even something they would help with? Does anybody have any recommendations? |
| Pay close attention to how you are gripping the gun, you may be bumping the slide catch as you are firing the gun. Another possibility is if the part of the slide catch that engages the magazine is just a tad too long it may be bumping some bulllets as they feed from the magazine causing the slide to lock back prematurely, particularly if there is a bit of side to side play in the magazine. If this is the case and you may choose to file down the tab on the slide catch just a bit (do tihs at your own risk, if you file off too much the slide catch will not engage when it should). Your other option as you said is to ship it to Taurus, just expect to be without your gun for quite a while and there is always the chance it may still have a problem after being returned. |
| i had a 145 and shot about 200 rounds through it with out a hick up then all of a sudden same thing you said. Sent it in they fixed it (took 4 months) but then all of a sudden it would ftf, every other round with ball ammo. So i sold it off. I hate to say this but you are better off getting a better gun. I got a springfield xd(m) and couldnt be happier! |
