Will decocking the hammer while the gun is field stripped hurt the gun? I have done this a few times.

I don't believe so because the energy of the moving hammer is captured by the decocking groove.

Decocking is GTG.

However, it is not recommended to drop the hammer by means of the trigger and let drop full force on any gun.

It's not good to have the hammer go forward full force against a bare frame. The same goes for AR's when the upper is removed.

In your case it shouldn't be a problem if it was only a "few" times.

I just wouldn't make a common practice of it.
