Hey guys,

I was wondering if it's unusual that the slide rattles on my new P226R (9mm) when I shake it.  It reminds me of how M16s / M4s rattle because of the play between the upper and lower receivers.  When I insert a loading magazine, it reduce the rattle a bit, but my P226R .40 S&W doesn't rattle nearly as much (you can just wiggle the slide a little on the .40).  I don't think my P228 is like this either (although it's been a long time since I saw my P228...).

Should I be concerned about this?

Thanks,

Dave

It's not unusual.  Won't affect the barrel to slide lockup, therefore won't detract from accuracy.  Would it bug me on a $700+ gun? Yep.  Neither my P229 or P228 have enough play between the slide and frame to rattle when shaken.

My 228 rattles quite a bit but the barrel/slide lock up is tight.  Seems common on SIGs for some reason.

But then my Glock rattles a bit as well.  Not as much, but definitely rattles.  And the barrel/slide lockup is no where near as tight.

As already mentioned, a common SIG trait.

When you seat a loaded mag with the slide forward, the mag spring pushes the top round against the slide, reducing the rattle.

The gun was MEANT to run in the dirt.  That slop is what makes that happen.

My 229 rattles a bit, yet it doesn't affect my accuracy.  You need some slop, like Lumpy said.

Interesting.  my p220 doesn't rattle at all, not a bit.

Same here, my 226 rattles, my 220 doesn't.  226 is an older CPO pistol though.

My 226R doesn't have a rattle at all, very solid and tight tolerances. I'd call SIG about that. Might be a problem. Just my $.02
