Hey all,
Well, I picked up my Operator yesterday.  I got it for a song ($889) at florida gun exchange.  I gotta say, I'm very impressed with SA lately. My first SA pistol was a "loaded" I got in '99.  Nice, accurate, but needs a good dehorning.

Last year after hearing rave reviews, I picked up a WWII.  The fit and finish was excellent.  Much better than the old loaded.  It shoots very well.

Last month, once again, after hearing rave reviews I picked up a XD45 tactical.  The thing is awesome!  Easy to shoot, accurate as all get out, super reliable, and very ergonomic.  So nice, it made me sell my USP.

Yesterday, I picked up the PX9105ML Operator.  Upon bringing it home, I stripped it, cleaned it, and lubed it.  I gotta say that Springfield did a really good job on this one.  No tooling marks, nice finish, and TIGHT lockup.  When I say tight, I don't mean it in the way adolescents say "tight" either ("Hey man, did you see that GT500, that thing is tight").  I mean it's bank vault tight.  NO rattle, NO movement whatsoever in ANY direction.  I hadn't really noticed that SA went with Novak copies (when did they do that?), since my other Loaded from '99 has genuine Novaks.

Today, I headed off to the range with my Nighthawk, Operator, and XD.  The Nighthawk and XD did as expected...perfect.  So did the Operator.  I fired 300 rounds out of it and it was dead nuts on POA (which was a concern because in the past I've heard about SA Operators that shoot very low), very easy to shoot (I'm sure the extra mass of the rail helps).  The trigger is the best I've felt on a SA 1911 yet, by far.  No, it wasn't as good as my Nighthawk, but damn, for a factory pistol it's absolutely wonderful.

Only "issues" were 1) I'm not a fan of the ambi safety and whatever make it is they use.  It has that little "hump" on top of it, which doesn't suit me that well.  I'll probably swap it out. and 2)...there is no "2".  That's really the only issue I had.  I was planning to send it to EGW for some minor work, but after today, I may just shoot it "as is" for quite some time.  I was skeptical of SA over the past few years (less than stellar M1A), but I can safely say (IMO) that SA remains probably one of the best values in a 1911 out there.

That is a nice looking firearm.  I like the operators and an operator will be my next 1911.

Looks good.  The only things I added on mine were custom grips and a magazine well.

$899 for an MC Operator seems like a great deal. Just dump the stock grips and get a set of Gunners and you should be good to go.

Wow! 889$ is an amazing deal on this coast, though from the sound of it it's much different anywhere NOT in california.  I looked for weeks and finally the best deal i could get was $1039.99 when it was on sale direct from springfield (they were at a gun show i went to).  Good to hear the good things, i pick mine up on tuesday :-)

You know, that was going to be the first thing I did.  However, they're actually not bad.  I'm also thinking of some of those skateboard-tape grips I've seen on their TRP Operator.  I forgot who makes 'em though...

Yeah, those Pachmayr rubber wrap-around grips are not bad, and if you do change them, then the front strap feels pretty slick (i.e. I wish it were checkered 25 lpi).

I think Falcon Industries does, I might be wrong.

Try a set of vz gator backs and some skateboard tape on the front of the grip.
the skateboard tape is not as hard on the hand and can be easily replaced.

Nice Operator.  For the longest time, I had been planning on getting a Warrior, but more and more I am leaning towards the Operator instead.  I'm hearing really good things about SA lately.

my sights were good on elev, but needed drifted over.  i thought the trigger was a little heavy, but will break in.  i put a wilson ext mag release, and wilson ext slide lock, dont have to move your grip at all.  had a magwell, but took it off.  no malfunctions either, almost 500 rds.  you got a great price.  somebody somewhere else mentioned don hume holsters, they list a railed operator.
