I picked up an old W. German 226 the other day, maybe 80-85% condition, as a project gun.  It was built back in '89 so I expected some problems.  Well, this one surprised me.  The pistol will fire in single action, but not double action.  The hammer fails to touch the firing pin when fired double action.  It's like it decocks the pistol rather than fires.  Any ideas what could be causing this problem?  Also, the trigger does not fully return after being fired, but I suspect that is being caused by a weak/worn out trigger bar spring.  I already have a new one, just have to put it in.  MJD

Problem was the trigger bar spring.  It was installed improperly and did not liberate the safety lever while firing double action.  I don't know why it worked SA, but it seems to work properly now.  MJD
