I just picked up a new Springfield Micro Compact.  I got home and took it apart to clean it and noticed what looked like hand engraving on the inside of the slide.  Is this normal?  If so, what does it mean?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Typically its the last 3 numbers of your frame's serial number.

Check The Armory Channel on You Tube.

Titled under Springfield Armory Mil Spec 1911.

I think it means that the SA Custom Shop has worked the slide. I'm pretty sure that any part that is worked by the SA Custom Shop gets the last three numbers of serial no. engraved on them. I just picked up a fully worked over full rail Operator on the EE. Just about every part had the last three engraved. She's a beautiful piece.

Thanks for the info!  I didn't even think to compare the numbers to the serial number.  Indeed, they are the last 3 digits.

Congrats! You just found out that you have a semi-custom 1911. In my opinion, SA puts out some of the best custom work you can buy in the 1911 market and they have great customer service.
