Ok just got my new Commander. Gun looks good overall until I disassemble and check out the inside part of the frame in front of the trigger guard (dustcover?...it's the place where they put the light rail on the newer tacticool 1911s). The bluing starts down from the top of the frame but fades as it gets to the bottom where it ovals out to accomodate the barrel and slide. The entire section where the slide stop goes through is pretty much bare metal...especially the finger shaped cutout right on the bottom of that little section (place where the barrel link rides I guess). This is all on the inside...the outside finish is great. Is it normal for these portions of the inside frame to appear slightly unfinished? Am I crazy or should there be solid bluing all inside of the frame? Sorry its been a while since I owned a 1911 so I may just be spazzing here. Thanks in advance. Edit: Sorry no digital camera right now. Can't post pics. |

Thanks for the responses. I'll call Colt and see what's up. It actually has pitting on it. Thought the rust I saw was just surface stuff but vigorous scrubbing with CLP didn't get it off. 700 bucks and I am thinking the whole gun has got to be replaced (or at least the frame). Not fair for me to buy a NIB gun and have to deal with rust. If I wasn't such a Colt Fan Boy I would trade it in on a Smith PD. Thanks again. |

Peiople screw up. Me I am a magnet for colt screw-ups. SAA custom shop sent back Colt 80's enhanced 45 sent back Colt 6920 shitty surface finish upper looks to be shapped with a die grinder. I have 3 Colt that never went back. 2 my grandfather used as LE, 1 a police postive, 1 police postive special 1 I bought used, commander 70 series. avgwith Colt is 50%. Kimber onw 1 sent back front sight loose Springer 1 1911 sent back 3 times. HK usp no problems Walter p99s no problem Glock 21 no problems S&W 6 shooters, 3 no problems. STI no problems. bad work gets out of all high production shops, it just sucks when we buy it. |
