Several years ago I bought a really nice blue 4" python from a co worker. It was and is in great shape but the original grips were changed out for some finger grooved pachmyr's.
Over the last day or two I've gotten a bug up by but about finding some originals. But from what little research I've done, they seem to vary a bit from generation to generation. If I'm going to fork over the bucks for them I want to make sure they're correct. So I started looking into the serial # and cant figure out what year it actually is. I found this link http://pistolsmith.com/colt-revolvers/19430-python-serial-s-up-1985-look-them-up-here.html Here's the thing. My serial is five digits long with no letters starting with a #8. I started thinking that I was misreading the first digit as an 8 rather than a 3 as in 808xx as opposed to 308xx which would make it a '64 according to that chart. But upon closer inspection with a flashlight and magnifying glass it's definitely a fully stamped #8. So my question is, could the link above have a typo? If not what year do I have? Could it be a post "85. From what I've seen the newer ones have a red stripe on the front sight and always have letters in the serial, but I could be wrong I guess. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
