I recently came into possession of one of these pistols and am having a problem clearing an unfired round from it when I clear it.  (I carry cocked and locked.)

When I rack the slide back the nose of the unfired round jams between the breech and the slide.  The extractor has a firm grip on the round while the tip of the bullet hits, and catches, at about 2 o'clock on the breech.  Almost looks like the round is too long even though it is factory ammo.

To fully clear the jam I have to hold the slide back and push the round  down and out through the mag well.

I sort of think the ejector is too long and causing the round to eject too early.

Anyone else ever see this or have any ideas?

Thanks.

Does it do this only on this brand/type ammo or all brands/types? There are some small differences in OAL between brands, IMO.

Try this with some FMJ & see if you still have the problem. My Micro hasn't shown this problem, although hand ejecting a chambered rd isn't the smoothest of events. I use only FMJ, FWIW.

Good luck!

Check AOL.

When you manually eject, do so with force and speed.

Some will have a small area milled out to allow a unfired round to eject easer.

OK, well, the ammo is all factory so I guess the OAL would not be a big problem.  Just the same I tried to clear a round of PMC 185gr JHP from the weapon and it too jams.  The ammo I keep in the pistol is CCI Blazer Brass 230gr FMJ.  I compared, visually, those two rounds with  some Winchester 230Gr FMJ to see if there were any length differences.  The two FMJ rounds are the same, the JHP is a bit shorter.  That seems to rule out a length problem.

Here is a pic of the actual jam with the CCI 230gr FMJ:

Guess I need to talk to SA.

Looks like. Thankfully, they're pretty good about taking care of their customers. If you do end up shipping the gun back, be sure to ask them about sending it on THEIR dime rather than yours!

Nine days later and I have the Springfield back at home.

Receipt says they tuned the ejector, adjusted the sear spring, tuned the extractor, reamed the barrel, and polished the feed ramp.  Test fired it too.

While I have not yet fired it the jamming condition that I experienced is no more!  Ejects all rounds manually as it should when I need to clear it, FMJ or JHP.

Springfield Armory just got another customer on customer service alone.

Thanks SA!!

Much better than Taurus. I waited 6 weeks. Granted, they fiixed the problem and it wasnt like I needed the weapon in that time. 9 days is pretty good.

Holy crap...9 days?  Wow, That's amazing!!!  I recently had the unfortunate luck of purchasing 2 SA Micro Pistols (a Micro GI and OD Micro Compact) and both shot low.  The GI shot about 3' low (not a typo...3 feet low!) and the Compact about 10" low.  It took SA 5 weeks to fix the GI and they still have the Compact!  They did fix the GI though, so that's a plus (and included a new match grade barrel for free as part of the fix :-), but damn, 9 days...I wish!  I feel like I need to call and bitch at Springfield now...they've had my pistol(s) since BEFORE you even made this post!  WTF?!  Oh well, I'm glad to hear they at least fixed yours in a timely manner.
