| I have a Kahr K9. Is it suppose to cock itself every time you pull the trigger? Or just when the slide goes back? |
I disagree. The gun must be cocked via firing a round or manually moving the slide. This is not double action. I know glocks also operate this way. |
|
While you're probably "technically" right, the rest of the firearms industry doesn't agree. Glock calls theirs a "safe action", but every one else calls it a double action. It's a matter of semantics, but the industry has the final word. You're in a similar situation to some older gun experts who insisted on calling the automatic pistol a "self-loading pistol". They were technically right, but they failed to convince the rest of the world. |

There's nothing wrong with loosely applying "DAO", especially in common usage. It can describe a variety of mechanisms accurately enough. But in this case the manufacturer specifically says "trigger cocking DAO". The trigger does partially cock the striker so Kahr could accurately call it DAO. But if that's "trigger cocking DAO", then what do you call a pistol that is actually cocked by pulling the trigger? Maybe we could call that "Seriously, It Cocks When You Pull The Trigger DAO" or SICWYPTTDAO But hey, it's only the meaning of language, right? |

If a firearm cannot be fired simply by pulling the trigger each time then I fail to see how this is double action. I don't see how a Glock or Kahr is double action when the only difference between it an a 1911 is a different trigger "feel". Both require the working of the action of the firearm to reset the trigger/firing pin mechanism and to fire a subsequent shot . A DAO firearm is something that hits the primer with the firing pin on every trigger pull regardless of the status of the action. |
Name another DA gun that does that by itself besides a revolver? |
My Beretta M9 does. If I put a magazine in, and don't "rack" the slide, or pull the hammer back, the trigger pull will be much longer, and will pull the hammer back, then release it with the only action necessary being to pull the trigger. After the first shot, it is then single action. I agree that the Kahr and apparently Glock mechanisms are not true double action. |
Traditional Sigs Beretta 92/96 Browning BDM Walther PPK and every other traditional DA/SA pistol |
Kel-Tec P11, Walther PPK/s. There are MANY out there. |
DA/SA is not DAO. I was referring to guns like Glocks and Kahr's which are DAO. For example, Beretta has a DAO version of the 92, I believe. Does that need to be cocked first? |

"DA/SA is not DAO. I was referring to guns like Glocks and Kahr's which are DAO. For example, Beretta has a DAO version of the 92, I believe. Does that need to be cocked first?" Thats actually my duty gun its the 92D it will not go into single action mode, which sucks ass, The reset is shit and the trigger pull is long and heavy as hell. The 92G is where its at, no safety (the safety selector only functions as a decocker) That being said if there is a round in the chamber and I pull the trigger it will go off, period. You dont have to "cock" it. |
| we make to much out of this double strike capability IMO. I have fired over 11,000 rounds out of my kahrs and I have never had a lite primer strike, therefore not a need to double double action it again. If it doesn't go bang, eject and move on.I consider my kahrs and glocks and lcp's double action. Is the glass half full or half empty????? |
no double strke capability with the kahr, pull the trigger nothing happens. rack the slide less than an inch and u are good to go again. Most all striker fired gns work that way, those with an exposed hammer usually the opposite. Give me a striker fired any day. Life is a chance every day. |
considering the kahr slide is damn near an exact copy of the glocks. certainly GO GLOCK. Put a price on that kahr puppy, this forum will do the right thing.... |
+100! I've never had a "dud" that ignited on the second try. So you revert to your training and rack the slide and get that dud out of there and try another one. That's the habit I want ingrained in me, not to keep pulling the trigger hoping the dud eventually ignites. I have two Kahr's. I used to be a 1911 guy. I still have three 1911's and still love them. But these little Kahrs are taking over. I carry one EVERY day. Don't carry my 1911's anymore. |
