What spring do I need to shoot 230gr factory ammo ??? There seems to be a disagreement, (between myself and the know it alls I shoot with) on what actually comes in the gun from Springfield and what should be in the gun... Can one of you try to settle this please...

Last I heard they were 16lb from the factory. If it works then why change?

I use 18.5 wolfies if they have any feed problems (AFTER I try 47d wilson mags (props to my fellow 1911 peeps))

The argument was they came with 18 and should have come with a 16, or vice versa...Of course nobody had a gauge to check...I take it the 16 would be the best choice for factory 230gr's ???

I don't know what spring comes with the gun, but I shoot IDPA with 230 gr Winchester Whitebox out of a stock SA 1911 Loaded.

No issues or problems for me.

I have had three Sprinfields and have shot 230 gr in all lf them ....................no problems. What spring they have in their pistols you can call them and ask. Or................you can listen to the "know it all."

The last springfield I bought did have a feeding problem and I did put an 18# in it. It was noticeably stronger than the factory spring. It was the WWII which may get a different spring than the US models too though. YMMV.

If you want more info, go to www.brianenos.com. There are some major discussions about spring weight but from a practical shooting point of view. Some if not all practical shooters will use shok buffs and the lightest spring that will run the gun. This reduces the forward snap when the slide returns to battery. I personally don't see any need to run overweight springs on a protection gun but to each his own. If you need an overweight to run it, I wouldn't trust it for carry.

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to go the " if it ain't broke don't fix it" route and just shoot it...
