I know I saw an article somewhere - either on the net or in a magazine.
what is the preferred way to carry the Hi Power hammer down with a chambered round or cocked and locked. it took me a while to start feeling comfortable carrying cocked and locked with both my 1911 and HP |

Quoted: Cocked and locked carry is the only way to go with a Hi-Power or 1911. This. Lowering the hammer on a live round is not only dangerous, it's downright stupid. If your gun's not ready damn near instantly, you're hauling around a paperweight––and you aren't guranteed to have the manual dexterity to cock the hammer on your own in an altercation. |

If it isn't in condition 1, just put it in the safe. If you are nervous about condition 1, or fumble with the small BHP safety, then maybe this isn't your best bet for carry.
A good holster/belt combo Is key for a condition 1 single action auto. Neither should be cheap or bought off the shelf. |
| I have continuously carried a weapon since 1974. sometime 1911, sometimes revolver, sometimes Glock, and sometime S&W 9mms. I always carried my 1911s cocked and locked, and would carry my HP the same way. Right now I carry a 469 S&W as my main carry weapon, as it is lighter and only holds one (or 2) less rounds. In the woods, however, I would carry the HP as it is straighter shooting and has more velocity. It would be cocked and locked. |
| I carry a HP cocked and locked, but I use the SFS system. It resolves the mushy hammer issue on the hi power and since you apply the safety by pushing the hammer forward and the hammer rides in a "down" position when the weapon is safed, the hammer is less prone to snagging and it's easy to accurately and quickly confirm the weapon is on safe visually or tactilely at any point in time. |
