Need some help guys.  I have a Taurus PT1911 and have never had an issue with it.  I have not shot it in about a year and have stored it with an empty Chip McCormick 8 rnd mag in it.  Today when I shot it, only 1 of 4 mags would lock the slide back after the last round.  All worked fine last time I shot.  Any ideas what is going on?  Could something be broken?

Thanks,

Duane

I would start by removing and cleaning the magazine release/catch and the tunnel it runs in.  Takes 30 seconds to do.

Chips followers can migrate.  Be sure they're well seated in the magazine (although, they can easily move though they start out in the correct position.

You haven't changed the grips, have you?  If so, be sure the magazine tunnel is not obstructed.  Clean it while your inspecting it.

Were all four magazines Chips?  Or, did you reload the one magazine four times?  Or, were there four different brands of magazines?  If Number 2, then that's your problem.

Report back.

Is there a shock buff involved? Those can cause the slide to not lock back especially if it is starting to come apart. weak may springs can be an issue too. You might take the plunger out of the tube to make sure it isn't gummed up too.

Thanks guys, I will try looking at the fixes you suggest.  All mags were McCormick mags and it was 4 different mags.  Only one locked the slide.  I tried seeing what was different about that one but could see no difference.  I did chage grips soon after I got the pistol, but that was years ago and there was no problem until yesterday.  There is no stock buffer installed.  Everything is factory except the grips and extended slide release.

What is the may spring?  Did you mean main spring?

I would empty each mag, then insert each one and manually pull the sldie back to see if it will lock back. Do that with each mag. If you can manually lock the slide back with an empty mag then it's probably not a mag issue. Make sure that the slide stop lever is functioning properly. Where is your left hand thumb positioned (if you're shooting two handed). maybe it's putting downward pressure on the slide stop lever?

I figured it out.  I took the slide release out and carefully inspected it.  I found a groove had been worn in it.  I pulled the Taurus OEM part out of storage and put it back in.  I noticed the angle of the OEM part was slightly different too and coupled with the worn part, it made all the difference.  The OEM part fixed the issue.

Thanks for you help.
