I was just reading an article about the new Glock 37 in .45 ACP caliber.  The article said it is a new compact handgun.  The measurements sound similar to a Glock 21 though.  Here is what they said about the 37 and what Glock's web site says about the 21 and the 30.
       37   21   30
Height    5.43"        5.47"     4.76"
Length    7.32"        7.59"     6.77"
Weight    22.19 oz.    26.38     23.99
Capacity  10+1 rds.    13+1      10+1

I don't really understand what void this gun is supposed to fill.  Has anyone seen one to help me understand?  Thanks

Edited to add that I'm sorry I can't get the columns to line up better.  They line up on the original screen but not when it's posted.

It's chambered for the new .45 Glock cartridge not ACP.

Okay, I guess I read the article wrong.  I didn't know that Glock was coming out with their own cartridge.

Here is the scoop that I got from the Glock rep:
The 37 is the same size as a 22 or 17, and is chambered for the .45 GLOCK cartridge, which is a .452 caliber bullet in 185 or 200 grains.  The case length is shorter than the .45 ACP, in fact, it is the same length as a 9mm(x19).  Speer is making the ammo for Glock, and they are showing specs for a 185 grain bullet at 1040 fps and a 200 grain at 984 fps, which is nearly identical to .45 ACP loads, if my memory serves.  The basic idea is to put .45 ACP performance into a smaller package that more folks can handle in the fat Glock grip.  Glock says that dealers will start seeing them around June 1st.  I personally feel that Glock is filling a hole that isn't really there, but I guess that is why they are rich and I am not.  Anyway, hope this info helps!

Thanks for the info.  It doesn't sound like something that I will need.  I agree that they seem to be trying to fill a void that doesn't exist.
I had heard that their next gun was going to be a long-slide .45 ACP or a single-stack full-size .45 ACP.  I guess those rumors weren't true.  Those guns make more sense to me than this one does.
Maybe they're just jealous that Sig has their own cartridge but Glock doesn't.

The case length is shorter than the .45 ACP, in fact, it is the same length as a 9mm(x19).

Hmmm. The cartridge sounds like the .45 Italian. It was a "paragraph" cartridge developed like the 9x21mm was for those countries that don't allow ownership of firearms in "military" calibers.

Or anyone else for that matter.

I agree with Aimless that it would benefit departments such as ours where we issue the Glock 21 and only allow Glock .45's for any kind of uniform or plain-clothes carry.  The 21 is a big gun for officers with small hands.
The problem is that our dep't and many like ours will probably not allow a gun that isn't .45 ACP.  If they were going to allow different calibers, we would already have .40's or 9mm's for small-handed officers.
Because of ammo inventory, liability, and the possible confusion of some officer loading the wrong ammo, I don't think the new round will do us any good at all.

The .45Glock is a panacea for the egotistic, 2A hating, Gaston.

He hated selling so many guns in .40 Smith & Wesson and .357 SIG - he's hoping the cartdidge will be soooo popular that other manufacturers will start to put his name on their guns.

It's a joke really.

The 37 is going to be either a Humungus Success
or a total flop, IMO!

Some good photos of the new cartridge here:

I quit screwing around with glocks. I sold mine to buy a Kimber and I am much happier now. I am not saying glocks are not good. I just like the Kimber better.

Glock sells the 380 acp glock to countries that the civilian population can not own 9mm and such.  I hoped that they would make mini glocks in 380 acp like kel tec is doing.  Think about pocket glocks half the size of glock 26s.  Now that is a market that would make a lot of money.

WHAT A REDICULOUS MOVE GASTON.stay and build what you know..the one and only glock i would qwn would be the g 17period.ive owned both the g21 and hated the fact that it was near impossable to load 10 rounds.and the g22 which just had to much recoil for that safe action slopy triger of theirs.

Sounds like somebody's been posessed by the ghost of Bill Ruger. Sheesh. First 1 1/2" 12ga shells, now a purposly pansied .45? Do whaaaaat?
Reminds me of the mid 70's. "Hey, we can make your car go slower, look crappier, and have less room." Somebody definitely farted down in Smyrna.
