I currently run a full length EGW one piece guide rod in my 1911 Govt .45  I just purchased a new US Navy end cap from Fusion Firearms and it seems to be about .003-.008" too long.  Would there be any issues removing .003-.008 material from my guide rod to accommodate my new end cap? Thanks.

I don't think that there would be an issue, considering that GI guide rods are considerably shorter than yours.

Or is altering a guide rod stupid and should I just nut up the up the $$$ and get a Commander model.  They're shorter I hear?

........ you want to run a standard recoil spring plug on a full length guide rod?

Yes.  Its a US Navy logo engraved end cap from Fusion Firearms.  I happen to be a Navy vet.  So....I thought it would be worth the 'cool' factor.

Even if you shortened a full length guide rod to allow a standard plug,or end cap as you put it, to "fit", how would you cycle the slide?  Is there something I am not understanding here?

Understood.  I don't think I thought the question through all the way.  Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow guys.

Just get yourself a stock guide rod and enjoy your new bling!
