I've had a lot of experience shooting glock 22s helping the department's swat team with training, but we use simunition rounds, so i want to get a 9mm because of the lower recoil than the .40. I would like something a little more compact like the 19, but I'm wondering if I'd be better off with the 17 since it has the same frame as the 22, and that's what i'm use to.   What do you guys think?

I carried a 19, but now own a 17.  Both are great guns.  The reason I bought the 17 was because of the longer barrel and the mag carries 2 more rounds.  I believe the longer barrel improves accuracy (at least that's my justification).

If you are using it for anything other than only CCW, then get the 17.  The 19 is more compact and more easily concealed, not much more, but enough that I would pick it over the 17.  I own both.  Great guns.

The G19 is more concealable and just as controllable as the G17. You can also use all of the larger mags with the G19.

I've found that the 19's are actually more accurate and easier to shoot than the 17's I've owned.  Sseveral people I've shot with came up with the same results.YMMV

I like the 17 myself

+1 on the 17 if its due to be a duty weapon.  The 19 if you are going to conceal sometimes.....although the G17 isn't really that big.

I am working with the same problem.  I have a 21 that is so good it can't be my only glock.  I like the 2 extra but I keep hearing the 19 is more accurate.  As of the moment, I am leaning towards the 17.

overall, G19

if its going to be a 100% non-concealable firearm, the the G17 would work just fine

Do you have big oversized Yetti paws, or are your hands on the smaller side of the scale? The G19 is a bit uncomfortable for my gigantic meat hooks during extended range sessions, and the bottom of my hand extends down below the handgrip. The G17 fits perfectly though. That said I carry a G19 every day. The G17 is harder to conceal on a 34 inch waistline. It can be done, but I barely even notice my G19 IWB.

For sim training I would get the one that fits your hand best. The G22 fits my G17 holsters perfectly, so that might be something to consider as well. You probably won't have to buy a new ride for your gat. That's always nice. You'll feel right at home on a G17 after training with a G22.

I've never seen or heard anything but anecdotal evidence that shows the G19 to be more accurate. I could be wrong but I suspect that how well the pistol fits the hand is a big part of the accuracy claims. The G17 gets a little bit more velocity out of the 9mm, and with Speer Gold dot 124gr. HP I don't need the +p for the G17. The G19 however does need a +p for that particular round to get it up to optimal speed, at least that is what firearmstactical's ballistic experts say.

My advice, and the traditional ARFCOM response is to get both. I did, and in retrospect it was a great decision.

I like my 17. I plan to try it for CCW occasionally, and the 19 might have worked better for that, but it felt wrong in my hands, and the top of the grip frame seemed to dig into the top on my hand in a way I didn't feel with the 17.

I own both and I'd have a hard time choosing between the two, but one of the above posters said it right... if its for CCW go with the 19, but if its a duty weapon or open carry weapon go with the 17.

+1

G23 is my carry and my G17 is my range toy. The compact(G23) frame is slighty too small for my big hands, but the size is better suited for me to carry. For carry Ide say the 19, but training only ide say the 17.

I had the same problem with my G19, so I high cut the front strap so that my pinky would fit. I then stippled it so that, among other things, my pinky will not slip off the front strap. Removing the finger grooves also helped.

Curare, thanks for posting that picture and explaination! That looks great.

I don't want to hijack the thread by asking too many questions, I'm going to try and get an IM out to you when I get a second to type. It would be cool to hear some details.

Nice work.

Whatever fits your hand better.

I own the Glock 17.
I've held the 19 in my hands, but I didn't like it as much as I did the 17.

19

It can double as a duty weapon or a off-duty/Concealed carry pistol where the 17 is too big for concealed carry. Just my opinion, but I carry my G23 on and off-duty as I find it to be the perfect sized pistol, and dont feel that Im compromising by carrying the 23 in either role.

The G19 is more versatile. If I was going to get a gun I wasn't concerned with concealing, I'd skip the G17 and get the G34.

For me the 17 is better. Fits my hand and seems to be better balanced.
Just my opinion....
