I thought my first HK was going to be a USP .45 or USPc .45 but after talking to a couple people, they pretty much said the USP's were crap compared to the new Hk.45s. One said the USP's slide spirng breaks and the rail will not accept accessories like a streamlight
any insight would be awesome.
also, can you get more than 10+1 in the HK.45s? or the compacts?

USPs are not crap, they are just an older design.
I have both the USP and HK45. They are both great but the HK45 is a more updated design that is more ergonomic.  FWIW, I like the HK45 better.  I also like the P2000 and P30 designs better than the USP and USPc.
About the USP spring breakage, it can happen to any gun period. USPs are not any more prone to breakage than any other handgun.
The USP rail is not standard and requires an adaptor to fit most standard lights and lasers.
As of now, 10 rounds is the maximum capacity of the HK45.  Some say that you can put 11 in the mag but I would not try it.

There's nothing "wrong" with UPSs, but they are the older design. The HK45 and P30, and also the P2000 series are the more modernized and updated versions of the USP. For example, I can move my TLR-1 from my P30 to my AR and back. You can't do that with the USP without extra parts.

The HK45 and P30 also have much more adjustable grips with different side plates and backstraps.

No reason to dump a USP if you got one and like it, but for a new purchase, I would go with one of the newer designs.

I have both 45's and they are both fantastic shooters. The HK45 has a bit more comfortable grip IMHO (fits like a glove). You will not be disappointed with either one I think. Here are some comparison pics I took a while back so you can see the differences:

Plunky, thanks for the comparison pics. I can't find anywhere around here that has either one in stock for casual finger banging. I have wanted the USP T for a long time and will get one just to satisfy the void, but the more I hear about the HK45 the more I wanty. On second thought, you're a bastard..............................in a good way.

USPc, 3000 rounds in a year and no malfunctions.

Whoever told you that should not be giving out info. The USP series is fantastic and as far as the rail- they make universal adapters if you need one.

There is a guy on HKpro that has 160,000 rounds through his USPt 45 and has only replaced springs on it.

USPs are anything but crap.  That is BS about the slide spring breaking, whatever that is.  I assume they are talking about the recoil spring and that is total BS.  In all my years of mucking about with HKs I have never heard of one breaking.  I guess they could break the same as any other pistol could break its recoil spring but if it has happened, it is anything but commonplace and the person who spread that rumor has no idea what they are talking about.
The other, the proprietary rail, is true.  Big whoop.  A $50 adapter and you can mount anything you want.  Don't want the adapter but want the USP, then get a light that is made for the HK rail.  The USP and USPC will take the Insight M2 (exact same as the HK UTL II), Laser Devices Blast 2, and other lights so there are units that fit them without an adapter.  I personally use a GG&G adapter and use any damned light/laser/combo I want.
Both are excellent guns and to call either one of them crap compared to ANY gun is just plain stupid, and there is no nice way to say it.

The USP holds 12 rounds in its mag, the HK45 can only hold 10 and there are no 'fuller' caps available for it.  It was designed around a 10 round mag and that's all there is and there ain't no more.

The USP Compact will take the 10 round HK45C mag because they are in fact the exact same magazine.  The HK45, as well as the HK45C, were designed around the USPC45 mag.  They extended the mag body a bit to make the 10 round mag for the HK45 and threw an extended base plate on it (to fill the gap) for use in the HK45C which of course fits the USPC 45.
Both the HK45C's and the USPC 45's normal mag is the 8 round magazine.

Either they had no USP's for sale or they're full of shit or both. I've NEVER heard of a USP spring breaking or anything breaking on a USP with the exception of a short run of firing pins.

They are right about rail lights not fitting on the USP models as only a H&K light will fit. Someone makes an adapter to make it work but I've never priced one.

I nominate Plunky for bastard of the year for posting those pics of his.

You'll be happy with either the USP or the HK45.
