I bought a used springfield "loaded" full-size and when shooting heavier loads such as 220gr rn, the slide has a tendency no to lock all the way foward. It requires manually pushing the slide foward (like 1/8" to 1/4"). While it doesn't occur every round, it still annoying. Might this be a case of needing a heavier recoil spring? or do i have other issues to investigate?

Thanks for the input!

You could have:

worn out recoil spring
improper  # recoil spring
cut recoil spring

try a new wolf 17.5# recoil spring

also check extractor tension.  too much can result in the symptoms you describe

there are many other possible causes, but these are the first 2 that come to mind and are easily remedied by the end user

buy the kuhnhausen books and/or the AGI video series

I've got the same gun with the same problem. I'm running 230LRN's through mine and every so often it will hang. The factory recoil spring is a 16#, so I went to a 20#( Midway has em from 7 to 26#). Had the same issue with my Beretta 96. Went from a 13 to a 16# spring and life is good. What can be done to adjust extractor tension...? When mine does hang, and I try to extract the round, it hangs up in the extractor. Thanks.
