What's the proper way to store and weather guard a .45 and ammo? Everything else is locked and secured indoors but I'd like something well-hidden and available elsewhere in case of emergency. Thanks.

Thanks fot the response. Would you mind being a bit more specific? What exactly be done to what? Wrapped in anything? Plastic, waxed paper, oiled rags? And what about prep after removal from storage? If I'm going to do it I'd like to do it right. Thanks again.

Get a piece of PVC pipe and some end caps.  Make sure one of them is of the type you can screw on and off.  Take your pistole and put a thin coat of cosmoline on and wrap it in wax paper or some thing so that the comoline does not spread on any thing else.

Get a plastic bag for any lose ammo and the mags.  Place some desacant in the bags with the ammo and mags.

put every thing in the PVC pipe seal up one end and put the screw cap on the other.  After you screw the end on seal it with some silacone sealer to make it water resistant/tight.

Then bury it.  Just remember that water will do alot of damage.  So make sure you have some desacent and put it al to gether on a dry day.

ETA: Cross post this in the Survival Forum.  You will also get a bunch of other views and ideas too.

In addition to the advice already given, I hope it's not too stupid to suggest that a stainless steel version of whatever would be the better choice as well.  Also, don't forget to include a shop rag in a double wrap plastic storage bag folded up with the pistol so you can wipe the preservative off of the pistol and use it.
