Has anyone here done it? I'm talking about either etching a design or carving out a hollow to glue an emblem.

I was going to use the miniature airborne wings, the ones from dress blues, but I'm just looking for ideas how people may have done theirs. I don't think freehanding it with a Dremel is the best way to go about it.

That would be cool. I saw one here in the EE last week I believe that had the Colt Delta Elite emblem inset, but I'm not sure how it was done. I imagine that one would be easy with a shallow drill bit, but the wings would be a different beast.
