Last time I paid attention here, I seem to recall a bunch of failure to extract/eject and spring problems with new Glocks.  The Gen 4 ones.

Are those problems cured?  If so, how do you tell the new good ones from old stock sitting around?

Did the Rough Texture Finish or RTF2 guns have any of those problems?

Not an idle question.  I need a new M19 and want one that runs like my old ones.

Picked up my G4 G19 today, brand new, took it out of the box at the range and gave it a quick visual once over.  70 down the pipe, no problems with winchester white box.

I debated at the gun store, gen 3 or gen 4, after all, I'd read all this shit on the internet claiming the 4th gens were junk.  I went ahead and bought one anyways, if they had or have issues glock did or will straighten them out.  Wasted way to much time online researching and debating 3rd gen vs 4th gen.

Buy the one you like, know its faults and shoot the hell out of it.

Just my opinion

The ejection problems actually started with the later model Gen 3 guns with the loaded chamber indicator extractors

I picked up a Gen4 17 that was test fired on 06/07/12.  I've shot over 3000 rounds of my reloads so far and one 3 gun competition and it hasn't hiccuped yet.

Bought my Gen4 G20, born on May 2012, put 200 rounds thru it without a single problem.
Before that, had a Gen4 G34 born in November 2011, put 500 rounds thru it without a single problem.

My buddy has a Gen 4 G17, several hundred rounds, no problems.

I recently bought a Gen 3 G26 with LCI, 320 rounds through it, no problems.

I didn't know there were actual FTE issues with the new batches...I thought it was more of an erratic ejection issue..My new Gen 3 has been 100% relaible..it just showers my head and face with brass

I bought a Gen 4 G17 and it tends to fling brass in my face.   So far it's been reliable otherwise.

I picked up a new gen 4 G19 last week.  200 rounds of 115gr. UMC without a single problem over the weekend.  That's more than I can say for the 2 Kahr's I shot.

I bought a new Glock 19 3rd Gen a few months ago SLT series. I had nothing but problems right off the back first three shoots out of the pistol had jammed up the rest of the rounds fired had erratic ejection with a few more jams. I sent the pistol back to glock they told me they replaced parts and inspected the pistol. I got the pistol back still the same problem. I tried sending back the pistol to glock they played all kinds of games with me its been siting at my dealer waiting for a fed ex label for the past three week and every time I called or my dealer called to find out why they did not send out the labe they always gave me a run around. So in my case I would never buy another glock again and I got three of them as of now. Its hit or miss with glock now but if you got problems with one forget about them helping you out or standing behind there product.

I'm a Glock armorer and one of the things that I noticed when I got my Gen4 G17 was I was getting alot of weak and erratic ejection, rounds weren't going forward like they were supposed to, they were going anywhere in that 150 degree arc to the right of the gun, including a few back into my face. The two that ricocheted off my glasses were the last straw and I called Glock and argued with one of their tech guys a little. Turns out the new Gen4 9mms use a differently shaped ejector in a differently shaped trigger housing. Everybody knows about the new trigger housing since it's slightly shorter to accommodate the new backstrap, however, the ejector is noticeably different. If you field strip your 9mm and look at it from the front, you'll notice the ejector looks like somebody grabbed the front and twisted it slight counterclockwise. New part number is 30274 as opposed to the old #336 ejector that's straight up and down with a slight bend for the 9mms. The tech was kinda evasive about it so I don't know if that shape holds true for the other calibers but that'd be the first thing I'd ask about if you're having weird ejections. Best I can figure is that they took all the old ejectors and tried to use them when they injection molded the new housings around them. My friend has the old style one in a Gen4 G19 and hasn't had as many issues but still as occasional strange ejects. Once I swapped that out it was 100% after that. Hope that this helps some of ya'll.

New to glocks in general.  Got a new g20 300 rds perfect.  Also got a new g26 500 rds perfect then while shooting  buddies reloads he tells me to try his 17rd mag in my g26. Bla bla bla so I seat the mag fire 2-3 rounds and get a failure to feed!
Clear the round drop the mag put stock mag back in and it's been perfect for another couple hundred rounds.  After some reading I learned by running a longer mag it may or may not have enough wiggle room to cause a malfunction? At least that's what I read.  Or maybe it was my buddies crappy reloads! Either way since then it's bee perfect.

I have two gen 4 guns, a 27 and a 34.

Both have been 100%, although I've had a few pieces of brass to the face with the 9mm.

All of the recent complaints have been about brass to the face or arms but IIRC none that I've heard about any failures.

Back in Jan, I bought a 3rd Gen G19, serial number SAH***. During the first few rounds, I had 3 or 4 FTFeed malfs. The round would start to feed out of the mag then, when the rim tried to slip up under the extractor, it stopped cold and wouldn't slip up under the extractor. Bumped the back of the slide, then ran 3 mags through it as fast as I could stuff them in and pull the trigger. That seems to have cured that problem, must have been a burr or thick finish on the extractor that wore off.

As soon as I got it feeding properly, I noticed the dreaded BTF (Brass To Face) issue. 3 or 4 times per mag, the gun ejected brass directly into my face. Thank God for glasses! When it wasn't trying to kill me, the brass ejected VERY ERRATICALLY! Forward, back, right, quite a few directly to the left (I shoot outdoors, so the brass wasn't bouncing off a range partition). Called Glock and got the new ejector and installed it. That took care of most of the issues. The gun ejects MOSTLY (but not all) between 3:30-4:30 O'clock, about 4-5 feet out. A few, however, still go almost directly backwards, although I haven't been hit in the face since the ejector swap. I have heard that Glock has new extractors and that they resolve the ejection issues. I'm going to wait till I'm sure that all the old "dip" extractors are gone, then order a couple and see if they help. The gun runs like a raped ape, but the ejection issues are driving me crazy! I'm a brass whore and, if I can't find ALL my brass, I go nuts!

I was just issued a Gen4 G22 at work a couple months ago (serial number TFD***). It works like a Glock should. No problems at all and VERY accurate! Ejection is consistent at about 3:30-4:00 o'clock, about 4-5 feet out.

I bought 2 brand new gen 3 G19's about 6 months ago.  RSX serial numbers.  Multiple stovepipes and brass to the face from both, with Speer Lawman FMJ and Speer Gold Dot.

I sent both back to Glock.  They sent them back saying something like "inspected, upgraded, test fired - within spec"

Back to the range, nothing changed.  Sold them both with full disclosure to the buyers.  I will not buy a new Glock until they get their shit together.  It's a crying shame.  And I've been shooting Glocks for a living since 1998 with no issues, I'm not a limpwrister, etc.

I read this thread and a couple other threads here dealing with extractors and recoil springs.

I can not figure out if it is the Gen4 guns or the later Gen3 guns that have problems with ejection, i.e., weak and cases hitting the shooter.  Discussions of this extractor number or that extractor number seem to contradict themselves here and there as to which works.

Or is it really ammo?

I have a Generation 1, single pin, 9mm M17.  With WW147JHP subsonic "shoot the sentry" ammo from the military, the slide will often not cycle no matter how hard you hold the grip.  With Remington 115 FMJRN, the slide operates so slowly, you can watch the cases literally ROLL over the ejection port and fall on your right foot.

With WW115FMJRN, full power American standard handloads, and similiar ammo like Federal 147 HydraShok, the cases eject energetically.

With NATO standard ball, the cases go flying.

What gives the best chance for a correctly working gun?  Older Gen3 or current Gen4 in Model 19's????
