I want to have a compact LED light on my CCW G19 and so far the best option I've found is the Insight X2 LED. As far as I can tell it's been discontinued by Insight but there still seems to be a decent supply of them. The best price I've found is $150.

In terms of compactness I want a light that doesn't add to the overall length of the pistol or adds as little as possible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks! I always forget about Streamlight and when the correct mounting tab is used the front of the light is pretty flush with the muzzle.

Thanks but that sticks out to far for my liking. I want to keep the front of the light and the muzzle in parallel so the holster is as short as possible. I carry OWB so the shorter the holster the better.

Love my APL. Compact and doesn't pass the muzzle on my G19.

He might be referring to the Inforce light.

Been thinking of picking up one of these.

Specs:

A few sources to buy from after a quick search:

The APL looks nice but it's bigger than I want. As I said in another post I really want the light to be parallel to the muzzle so the holster can be as short as possible

CTC Lightguard is about all I can think of.

Personally, I'd opine that a small hand held light is ideal for concealed carry versus adding additional(even though minimal) bulk to the weapon.

The Inforce and Glock factory light are the closest ones I can think of that come close to parallel to the muzzle.

The factory glock light sucks. A lot. I would discard that option completely.

The Crimson Trace lightguard would be the option you are looking for, but they don't put out much light, compared to a Streamlight or Surefire.

I prefer the Streamlight TLR1-HL.

You won't have a problem finding a holster with that combo.

The lightguard? That would be another story.

Have a TLR-3, switched back to an X300u. TLR-3 was nice and small, very bright for its size, but I live out and sometimes need more.

I use an Insight Proycon and really like it. They are discontiuned now but can be found on the EE and eBay occasionally

Out of every single light mentioned in this thread the only that suits my needs is the Streamlight TLR-3 which is the most compact (shortest) of them all. As I stated in my OP I want a light that is as parallel to the muzzle as possible and all the others will protrude past it.

If I opt to go with a weapon mounted light that will be the one, assuming I don't find something else similar. :)

Thanks for the help folks.

...and I found another light that might do the trick - the Viridian CTL. It's a little more expensive but it's very compact so I'm going to do a little research on it.

Bear in mind that compact lights will not be as durable or as bright as full-size/duty lights.  A TLR-1 or X300 will only add an inch but will be much more rugged.  Plus, you can get holsters much more easily for full-size lights (ex: Raven Concealment quick-ship Phantoms).

I like my Inforce APL...and it matches!!!

ETA:  I had a TLR-3 and did not like it.  With the keys provided, I could never get it set far enough back that it was easy to operate.

ETA again:  Here is a pic of my Glock with the TLR-3.

Duly noted. To be blunt I feel most comfortable with well known brand name lights, especially Surefire jus because of years of personal use. I know Streamlight is well respected and Inforce lights have made a name for themselves as well. Durability is paramount so I won't sacrifice that for size.

Well considering my pistol is all black, matching it should be easy. :) Seriously though, thanks for posting the pic. If nothing else the APL is 0.60" shorter than the Sure X300 Ultra. The TLR-3 is only 2.71" long but if I can't get closer to the trigger guard than the only measurement that matter is how far it sticks out from the frame. That said, the APL uses CR123 batteries (which I have a good supply of) whereas the Viridian CTL and TLR-3 both use the smaller CR-2 and I'd like to just stock one type of light battery.

That looks like a winner. Thanks!

What do you feel is "weird" about their switching system?

For the APL, you hold the toggle for momentary and tap it for constant on. Although it seems counter-intuitive it's actually quite easy to get used to. Light can be controlled with trigger finger, or with slight shift of off-hand grip. I've tried a TLR on my g-19 and I feel the APL is a much better fit.

Ok, if I'm interpreting your description correctly as long as I hold the button down the light is on or I can just tap it to make it stay on?

Exactly.  The sad part about the APL is that the mount just changed.  It no longer has the lever and instead it has a classic screw mount.  This is fine if you don't plan on taking the light off though.

This is about as flush as you can get with a WML.

Only thing is, you need to cut another rail slot.

Otherwise, it'll look like this:

At this point, you might as well get a TLR1, X300, etc.

BTW, none of the above pics are mine.

It's also good...... if you actually want the light to stay on the pistol while shooting it.

Inforce didn't change the mount for grins. Change costs $$. There were enough documented problems that they changed their product. I don't forsee needing to take my light off in such a hurry that I have to have a QD mount.

Inforce will exchange the older mount lights for the new style. I sent mine in for exchange and can't wait to get the replacement with the more reliable mount system.

Weird, I was on the phone with them just yesterday and they didn't offer a replacement.  Guess I'll call back.  But on the subject of the QD mount, it's perfect if you have one handgun (G19) that you carry without the light but slap the light on for nightstand duty.  My early APL had trouble on my M&P45 but never on my PPQ 9mm.

After picking up my G19 yesterday, I tried out my X200 on it. While it's not a compact light it does give me an idea of what I'm dealing with and unless I can get a light that is flush with the muzzle (e.g. the Viridian CTL) I'm not going to have a light on my CCW.

Thanks for the replies though. They were very helpful.

The switch on the APL is the best thing about it. Press and release for constant on or hold for momentary.  Completely intuitive and ambidextrous.

I've had good luck with my APL despite all the negative things you read saying they'll fly off all the time.  The extra length of the light makes it about the same overall length as a G17.  I carry mine in a G17 length AIWB holster.

Anyone know if the APL will work with a Glock 19 and an Osprey Suppressor?
