Colt Python 4"
Stock Grips

Here's my problem.  I'm not gonna replace the grips.
HKS speedloaders.  I have 4 of them.  They all catch on the grips.  .357 and 38 special both calibers, same result.

Does anyone make a smaller diameter speedloader?

I haven't tried the safariland ones yet.  Would they be any different?

I am not sure if I can help you or not, since my shooter Python has a set of Hogue grips on them that are speed loader ready. However, I just bought a boat load of these speed loaders and they seem to work ok. I would not use them for 'ccw' but they are ok for plinking. They are a bit different than the traditional loaders out there.

One of their claims to fame is that they are flat on the forward side to obtain maximum clearance. I still am not sure if they will clear your service grips.

I have a python and love it, however I don't think it's really a speed loader type of gun, I close the cylnder with the hole lined up to the barrel to preserve the action and timing, which are museum worthy on my piece.

I have pacmyrs on my gun and the hks speed loader clears it just fine but to me jamming a speed loader in there and slamming the cylinder shut would be better served on a s&w action, with colts if the cylinder doesn't pop in right it can cause your gun to not work. I bought a king cobra for hunting and all the dirty work.

The problem you'll have if using a different speedloader is that they're sized for the diameter of the cylinder.

For example, if you went to a HKS 10 for a S&W K-frame, the rounds would not index properly when aligned to the Python's cylinder. You'd end up "spilling" rounds away from the chambers.

Your best bet may be trying out speed strips if you're unwilling to change out the grips.
