Love my G 30 but find it somewhat hard to conceal.  (Yes I do dress around my pistol. )  Was thinking of a 1911 and saw a Colt Lightweight Commander at the local funstore today.
What are you alls experience with the LWT commanders?  Am not recoil sensitive but like to be able to make quick follow up shots.  Any help, experience or advice would be greatly appreicated.  Have owned several 1911s but never carried one for daily use.  Really like the weight of that Commander.  Thanks again for any help.

I carried a lightweight Colt Commander for years, but it's been sitting in the safe for just as many since I switched to a Govt.  There's little or no difference between the two as far as concealment, since the grip/frame are the same in both.  The reason I switched is because I had a tougher time managing recoil with the lightweight Commander.

If you have access to one, I'd recommend shooting it and see how it works for you.

I have 2 of them that I rotate for CCW when I don't feel like lugging around a 5" steel gun.

Mine have been reliable.  They are a little slower to come back down on target but only slightly.   I do find them more tiring to shoot a few hundred rounds at a time, however.

One of mine has a tiny crack on the dust cover at the front of the rails, but it was there when I bought it and it hasn't gotten worse.   Finding a crack here is not unusual depending on the age of the gun, and it's more of a cosmetic concern than anything.

Keeping a fresh recoil spring in them is a must in order to minimize wear and tear on them.

I have an XSE and S&W 1911PD. The Colt is EDC and the Smith is backup. I have no issue shooting either but they have a little more snap than a steel gov't. In a carry situation, I don't think the difference in double-tap splits is going to matter.

I carried a Colt LW Commander for many years as an off duty gun. It even subbed as a Duty Weapon when I had my Full Size Colt out having work done on it.

I still pack it now and then, though I mostly carry my Pro now a days.

I've been carrying this one for almost ten years.  It's beat up on the outside.  The internals were replaced in 1998.

New sear, disconnector, hammer etc.  It's heavy for a LW Commander.  It came with a FLGR.  I added a steel MSH.
If you can find a LW Commander that hasn't been screwdrivered, get it.  They are good guns and an excellent choice for concealed carry.    I prefer Commander length 1911's to full length Govt length.

Stick to standard loads for carry, wimpy loads for practice and it will last for a very long time.
Shoots great, very accurate and very reliable despite it's well worn look.

Carried this one for years up in New York ,it's a great carry piece.I moved to Florida 5 years ago and it's to big to carry here in the hot weather for me so I started carrying a Kahr PM9 in the pocket instead.I do feel under gunned at times and wish I could make the 45 work for me here. It's a series 80 that I bought after buying a Combat Elite series 80 .I love these pistols and wish to be buried with them as they will never be sold that's how much I love 1911's.

As for recoil ,I'm a pretty big guy with large hands and have absolutely no problem with recoil with this pistol.I don't notice any difference between it and my full size 1911.
