What is the best combo for people/officers today? Manufacturer(s) + Models.... |
| I like Glocks but I know they are not for everyone. I am not a cop and never have been. But I always figured beieng able to use a magazine from your duty weapon in your backup would make sense for a LEO. G22 and g23 Mags will work in the G27. Maybe other brands do this too. I trust my Glocks thoroughly. |

I've always felt that a choice of firearms should be an individual choice. As such the responsibility of the administrating authority should only strive to produce a list of safe/effective and viable firearms for the individual to choose from. Fortunately I worked under several administrators that were of the same opinion. My choice was a Colt 1911a1 for duty use and a S&W 469 as primary backup (left front pants pocket, S&W model 60 (Left ankle) as secondary backup. |
This is what I carry, a G21 backed up by an SP101. Anytime anyone on my Dept asks, I suggest a snubbie as a backup for one reason- reliability. You don't have to worry about limp-wristing, mag troubles or anything else that you have to worry about with an auto, as long as you maintain the thing. Consider this. In my Dept, I've seen several Officers (granted, they are not gun guys) limp-wrist their autos under the mild stress of qualifications. The rate of malfs seems to go up when we do our night fire portion and the Officers have to worry about coordinating a flashlight with their sidearm. If it ever gets to the point that you have to use your backup, you'll have stress galore and might be injured. With a revolver, you merely pull it, aim and pull the trigger. No worries about clearing a malf one-handed if you limp-wrist. Reloading will be a royal bitch if one-handed but at least you should be able to get the 5 or 6 rounds off without trouble. Whatever you get, get something decent and practice, practice, practice, especially one-handed and weak handed. Bub |

Insert your favorite brand hi-cap auto here + your favorite brand snub-nose revlover here. I personally carried a G17 on duty belt / G26 on vest / Colt Detective Special on ankle. G26 was incase my G17 should ever go tits-up during a major incident, Colt was the Oh Shit! gun. Sheep |
I'd agree with that statement, not to mention if for whatever reason your primary (G22 and so on) malfunctions and is FUBAR, you can use the G27 w/ your normal mags. I'm a firm believer in carrying a backup that @ least uses the same caliber as your primary. Same caliber + same mags = great combo |
