ok guys... bought a used beretta 92 compact.

the supplied mag is feeding bullets right below the feedramp so im guessing that is a mag/mag spring problem. however, once i switched mags, i get stovepipes.

whats the deal?
any ideas?

im using fmj ball ammo

spings and things.

check your: mag spring (first problem); recoil spring (possible 2nd problem)

other considerations: your extractor spring/extractor needs replacing...h/w, i'm more inclined to say that the recoil spring needs to be changed out

Being that it's used and having these kinds of problems, I'd go right ahead and eliminate the recoil spring and mag springs by replacing them as suggested.  After doing that, if it still has problems, perhaps it's extractor related - or just bad magazines.

Check first to make sure you have a factory mag and that it is assembled correctly. Is this a double column mag or single? (they made both in a compact version) Beretta factory mag springs rarely wear out unless they have had many thousands of rounds through them. Might, however, be your recoil spring.

The best thing to do when you buy a used 92 is to buy a spring pack from Wolff springs.  It's less than $20 and gives you all the springs in the gun.  Worth every penny.  Swapping springs is very easy to do on the 92.  The spring pack is at the bottom.

A good trick to know with springs is that a #6 crochet needle makes a near perfect tool for springs on the 92.  The hooked end helps position the springs and the bottom can be used for pins, etc. If you own a 92, and expect to do any work on it yourself, get the #6 crochet needle.

make sure mag is assembled properly- do not know if the wolf 92 mag springs will work in the slightly shorter compact mag- buy a couple regular size beretta mags- cheap and easy to find- they will just stick out the grip a little-
