As far as fairly common/easy to find options, my favorite are the all beef dogs sold by GFS...

and like any hotdog, must be grilled for best flavor.

Been eating ones made by local locker plant ( Raber's Packing if anyone is in central IL )  all beef in a 'natural casing' .

We need to buy some for this weekend and don't want to deplete our supply and Raber's is out of their good ones at the moment.

What is the GD Tier 1 dog of choice?  Hebrew National?

The nathan’s quarter pounders are the best commercially available ones. Unfortunately they’re hard to find.  Don’t get the regular small nathan’s ones. Just the giant quarter pounder ones. By far the best grilled hot dogs I’ve made

For "hot dogs" (skinless) this is the truth.

It's a different flavor than most chilis I have had. Also thicker than most chilis.

It's a staple in upstate NY(Lake Champlain area) and the Champlain Islands in VT.

Caspers but AFAIK you have to live in Nor Cal to eat them. One of the few things I miss from living in California.

Here is Idaho I really like the Falls Brand Basque Chorizo dogs

You're in IL.... the one thing the state has going for it at least is the availability of Vienna Beef

Not sure if it's considered "Michigan sauce", but we used to travel to Elmira just to buy containers of M & M's meat sauce. Damn good stuff!

Local supermarket here in Indiana just south of MI line just started carrying them.  I think they were strictly a Michigan thing until lately.

Hard to find, but Nathan's does that too.
I caught a sale a while back for IIRC 1.50/pack, bought about 20 pounds of them.

My wife grew up in Liverpool too. I’ve been to Heidi’s several times. My wife always orders a coney. I tell her it’s just a regular hot dog without any food coloring. We argue about that all the time.

No mention of Freihoffer rolls to go with them?

This right here. I grew up in Liverpool, NY and went to Heid's a lot. Hoffman's on a Freihoffer's New England style roll.

I got some Hoffman's down here at Publix a while back. Wish I could find those rolls to go with them though.

Sir if you can’t tell the difference between the two I can’t help you. I DETEST the coneys, and yes in a blind tasting I’ll pick it out every time.

I find this interesting... how do the jews somehow end up dominating the top quality, high-end hotdog biz?

Diamonds and doggies eh?

There's a Gordon's nearby, but I don't go there often, because Sam's is closer.

I'll check these out next time. We often host big family gatherings, and I buy hot dogs for all the kids so I don't go broke feeding the horde.

Fuct if I know. It's just hot dog chili sauce. I've been trying to figure out what's supposed to be special about it.  There are 'Coney Island' restaurants every quarter mile around here, and they all serve some minor variation of the same chili dogs. None of them are bad, but none are special, either. Sonic is as good as any of them.

I've been here for a few years, and it seems Michiganders have a talent for pretending mundane, common shit is awesome just because it's here. I've literally had one tell me the forests here are unique and special - unlike anywhere else in the world. They're full of fucking trees just like any other.

Michigan chilli dogs are as unique and special as Michigan trees.

Ballpark Frank's that clump up.

Costco "normal sized" that you buy in their freezer section are  pretty decent. Yet I HATE the food court jumbo ones unless I'm starving.

And all hotdogs need to be slightly browned and burnt. Grill is first choice, broiler second, pan third.  Boiling or microwaving sucks.

And Nathan's are disappointing. There I said it. Way too thin and overpriced.
