My dad has one that I really want.
It is one badass little rifle. |
I finally got one recently. Have not yet made it out to shoot it, though...
Mine is less accurate than my Ruger Mini-14 and shoots a .30 caliber carbine round rather than a proper rifle round.
Do not like. Sorry. |
Never been able to get a full mag through the aftermarket one I got without a malfunction. Do the old Gov. one function?

I love the M1 carbine light, handy and respectable performance. My SIL looks at me crazy when I call it a friendly rifle when I try to get her to shoot it.

I love mine as well .
An Inland and a Winchester . Awesome little rifles |
My universal is not awesome :(
Even it shows how good the basic design is. |

I have an Inland I got when I was 18. (eta: that was a lot of years ago)
CMP was(?) a good source for ammo... |
Youtube has a couple of WWII era instructional videos with a huge model. Ingenious design.
Search m1 carbine operations adco. |

I have one of the second gen Universals that is absolutely awesomely reliable and accurate. I picked it up 25 years or so ago in NY and it has a cast receiver with virtually no GI parts other than the bolt. luckily, when the the gas piston mushroomed, I was able to use a GI one with no further problems. It has a marlin like microgroove barrel that easily shoots into 2-3 inches at 100 yds with irons and 1950 LC surplus ammo. A very fun carbine to shoot so I don't miss my NPM carbine I sold years ago. Maybe have over 2k rounds through it with no problems other than the mushroomed gas piston.

The rifle is a lot of fun . But I've always considered the caliber weak .
But the rifle was not intended to be a main battle rifle and as I understand it mainly took the place of handguns . gd . |

Weak compared to center fire rifle rounds yes. Shoot some pistol targets and it will damage them. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

My Rockola shot better than two of my GB's at 100 yards. I'd like the Mini more if it used STANAG mags and shot as well as that Rockola M1. |

Is a shooter grade rifle expensive these days? View Quote Most non import marked USGI ones are running $900-1200 bucks anymore. There is a demand for USGI ones and with only a few million out there (6 million made, maybe 50-60% left here in the US in decent shape) prices will only climb. I'm wanting to buy another 2018 and might go with the Fulton Armory made ones over a USGI one since prices are almost the same now. The Fulton Armory ones are the only ones new production that meet USGI specs. Fulton Armory M-1 Carbine Fulton Armory summery from M-1 Carbine site Costs more than a high end AR but I have a safe full of those, the idea of a new GI spec M-1 Carbine sounds nice |
