| should i go skydiving with a buddy in a month? yay or nay? I am young (20) so I might as well do it now before its too late. What would be a good price to pay? Any of you guys know of a place near the San Diego area? |

You have to go if you have a chance. If you can, sign up for a Accelerated Free Fall jump. It will cost a little more and take most of the day for the training, but you get to jump with an instructor on each side of you holding onto your harness until you pull the rip cord. You get to pilot the chute to the ground by yourself. Lots of fun! |

I did it on my birthday in september it was fucking awesome... its funny you posted this, i was suppose to go again this morning. we waited 7 hours for the weather to clear, we ended up leaving because the clouds didnt clear. I'd post my video but dont wanna jack your thread. JUST DO IT, and make sure you get the video. |

1. it's never too late.
2. it's never, ever, ever too early. skydiving will change the way you look at your life. the only reason i quit jumping is that i ran out of money after 96 jumps, then lost my currency. now, unless i can find someone who owes me a favor, i think i'll have to take AFF all over again (my A license is dated '95). seriously––do it. [edit: as for rates, i bought a tandem for my brother last year. ran $285, and was worth every penny to see his face when he landed] |

Lots of fun! i have to differ. i recommend people go tandem first because they can choose to be involved or "along for the ride". i was hands-on for my tandem––my JM asked me how i wanted to do it, and i said "let me figure things out for myself––just make sure i don't kill us". but i still had far more fun on my tandem than my AFF lvl 1 because i wasn't concentrating so hard on the tasks. it wasn't until lvl 4 that i actually began to really enjoy freefall again. prior to that it was work. to each their own, though. |

I could see that a tandem could be more fun. I chose the AFF because wanted to see if I could do it and not freeze up. For me all the fun was after the chute opened. |

Any of you guys know of a place near the San Diego area? lol, before its too late... My best friend taught me to skydive and still jumps regularly. He's 65 and has over 4000 jumps. Yes, you should do it. There is no way to describe it in words, it is beyond anything you can imagine and far beyond what can be described. I know how cheesey that sounds, but its true and anyone who has ever jumped will attest to it. You might want to check out the arfcom of the skydiving world: dropzone.com |

Yes, you should do it. I'd do the tandem. Minimal training and you can be as involved as you want, or you can just enjoy the ride.
I had 283 sport jumps in my younger days. I was a Jump Pilot for 4.5 years, 1200 hours as a Jump Pilot About 9,000 jumpers dropped. I only lost one... |

I did 2 static line jumps when I was 20 in 1990. I think for the first one (w/ class) it was like $100, then after that only $35.
The class was 4 hours the night before, then 4 hours the morning of the jump. We hit a deer on the way to the morning class. Great start, eh? Our plane was a Cessna. It had a seat for the pilot only. I sat next to the pilot facing backwards, my two buddies were in the back w/ the jumpmaster. I was happy when we'd got above like 400 ft or so and he opened the door. Had a bit of sensory overload as I let go of the wing strut and fell. What a cool feeling, though, being 3500 ft high or whatever and just floating. Even though I'd aced the PLFs in class, I came down like a ton of bricks about 10 ft from the target. My second one, I opened up like right over a little town - with buildings, cars, power lines, etc. I steered towards what I thought was the LZ and landed in a farm house front yard. As I was walking back to the airport, a farmer picked me up and said "Don't you think it's a bit windy today?" Ha. We'd jumped even though winds were too high and we couldn't find the streamer we threw out just before jumping. But hey, I was 20, I thought I was invincible. Wish I would've continued doing it. |

I'm not a skydiver, but I used to fly into that area a lot. Skydiving opportunities might be scarce unless you are a Navy SEAL or Marine. Lots on Military airports and airspace, but not a whole lot for civilians.
Google up these airports, and see if they have a skydiving company: Brown Field (SDM) and Montgomery Field (MYF). Here is a company at a private airport just North of Mexico. It looks like it's going to be you best bet: (California prices for sure, but If I ever get the urge to jump out a perfectly good airplane, AFF sounds like the way to.) http://skydivesandiego.com/?page_id=12 Your first solo skydive includes: * Five-six hour Comprehensive Ground School * Equipment Rental, Two In-air Instructors, and necessary Lift Tickets * Approximately one minute of freefall from 13,000 feet * A scenic 5 to 7 minute parachute flight * A log book and A License Card * Skydiving videos are available for an additional charge Purchase an Accelerated Freefall Skydive Accelerated Freefall E-TICKET: $339 Call now to get a cash discount and jump for only $319! After completing this form, call to make a reservation at 1-800-FREEFALL. |

Any of you guys know of a place near the San Diego area? Absolutely. I think I paid like $130 for my jump...of course my buddy's chute didn't open so they had to pull the reserve. That part was scary as f***. Even the instructor was a bit freaked out about it when he landed. Having to pull the reserve is a 1 in 1000 event. |

Why would you want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane? ![]() Typically skydiving planes are NOT "Perfectly Good Airplanes" hahaha Mostly kept together with duct-tape and glue! AHAHAHA So even if you don't plan on jumping you might end up jumping anyway hahaha No the free fall is AMAZING!!!!! Nothing else like it! Its a HUGE RUSH |

As a healthcare professional and someone who has seen firsthand what a skydiver who went skerplat! looks like, I would advise you not to. I've seen this too 1st hand (see my previous post) but I'm not a healthcare profesional.. Have you seen people that died from car crashes and other accidents too? no warnings for those activities? |

Quoted: Quoted: God I hate that question. ![]() Quoted: Why would you want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane? ![]() it's almost always asked by people who have never been in freefall. their loss. And always by someone who's never seen a jump plane! The last one I was in was a 182 with an interior comprised of brown shag carpeting, cardboard and duct tape. |

Quoted: Sounds like you have never been skydiving. It is a lot more than just an adrenalin rush. You ever have flying dreams as a kid? Skydiving is the reality of those dreams.Stand on a train track and wait until the last second to jump out of the way. It's just as big a rush and it's a lot cheaper. It is almost impossible to explain to someone who hasn't experienced it, and I had similar reservations before trying it. |

Any of you guys know of a place near the San Diego area? My advice is to go AFF instead of tandem. Price will be similar, but jumping on your own is a completely different (better) experience. |
