with all the technology out there, why dont stop-and-robs have better video cameras in them?

people get stabbed / shot / robbed at gas stations and all sorts of places, then they put the perps face on the news, the picture quality is so shitty you cant even tell what color the guy is let alone WHO he is

They use the same tape and keep recording over and over. Industry standard is to use the tape about three times and then replace it with a new one. They don't.

If they use a DVR they set the cameras to record at the lowest resolution so they can get more video on the hard drive.

Lazy, stupid, and cheap.

I had to do a 4 camera outdoor security system on a DVR for my family to help catch a stalker. Altogether, with software, hard drive, cams, mounting equipment, installation (I shopped around...originally I was quoted at 8, yeah RIGHT) it came to about 3,000.

Now, an indoor system is a lot cheaper, DVR will run you about the same and installation is usually easier, but you're looking at about 1,000 for a serious system.

Money. But also the fact that people need to have thousands stolen before they can justify spending a thousand on security.
