I have a sw mp-5 with a fake can. If I get a sbr permit can I remove the (can)or how does that work?
I tried to read the law through the atf web site
but I can't make heads or tails of that crap.

Yes, common practice around here. The fake can being permanently attached brings the barrel length to 16" to allow sale as a Title-1 firearm. Know a fella that did it to his, and seen one here at local FFL/SOT  that fella had the can removed.

Make sure your state law allows for SBR ownership.
