From the last thread about this pic.

Quoted:
That soldier is in my old unit. Before you go judging him let me tell you a little about him.

He was formerly 82nd airborne and got royally fucked up in a training accident. 3 disks in his back I believe. He cannot PT at all and is on permanent profile. For being a fat body, and he knows he is, he is an absolute expert on all things infantry and one hell of a nice guy. He has lost I believe 30-40 pounds on this deployment and is continuing the weight loss.

That pic was taken in march I believe and he has been dieting hard to get the weight off. He contributes time and knowledge that I can guarantee you the 2 others visible in the picture do not.

It IS unsat and he knows it.

I've seen some guys like that that could run their asses off.  They were all old though.  So, either he can run like hell, even though it doesn't look like it; or that shits gonna catch up with him and get him kicked out eventually.

yuk yuk yuk - good one!

I don't see evidence of photoshop - and it does look "bad" from a promotional, recruiter type standpoint.  But if the dude is young and can pass qual's, AND they have the gear to fit him, hell, he's there and doing SOMETHING.
When I see a gut like that - just the abdominal shape - I think glandular problem.  Yeah he might have a hand to mouth problem as well, but that looks like more than just overeating.  If he made it thru the fatbody platoon in basic, I guess they figured he was usable material.....he just uses "a lot of material"  Hey!  Badaboomcrash!

Edited after reading the above posts:  Hats of to him for serving and trying to remain relevant in service.  He could take an easy out after that injury.  And yeah, I know some fatbodies that can haul all that ass and are strong as hell.  Again, hats off to him for being there.

Yea... show me that pic... doesnt exist.

The pic I think you are thinking of shows a Marine sitting at a table with a fat Army soldier walking by.

Marines usually dont get fat, and when they do, they police their own. Being unsat doesnt go over well in the Marines.

I know a lot of big boys that can still run but they sure as shit can't do pull-ups.

his name is Pfc. Ventura if memory serves,

update coming...

eta:

quoted from the sniper'shide.com forum motivational picture thread

i forget what page it was originally said by member "forty-one" but the below exerpt is from page 111:

PFC Ventura is a friend of mine, though I've never met him, he and I have known each other through an online Cavalry Scout forum for over 3 years now. He just finished up his 2nd tour in Iraq with the Washington NG. That pic is from that tour. PFC Ventura used to be in the 82nd in 5/73 CAV. From talking to both him and one of his former platoonmates who came to my platoon at Fort Stewart in 2006, I know that he has always struggled with weight. In the 82nd, he was one of the biggest guys in the squadron but always kept up. After a hellacious tour in the Diyala River Valley in 2006/2007, PFC Ventura exited the Active Army and went back home to NW Washington state. During that time he struggled with severe PTSD which instead of heavy drinking, was satiated and quelled by heavy eating. At some point, he missed the army and joined the NG. His weight continued to swell due to that and the fact that he could barely walk for almost a year due to a jump injury he sustained on his 17th jump, post-OIF4/5 and before he left the 82nd. He placed himself on a strict diet and exercise program, with little favorable result. Upon deployment to Iraq in 2008, PFC Ventura's qualities of tactical and technical proficiency overshadowed his obvious weight issue and he was placed on the commander's PSD in a gunner slot. They conducted multiple missions and PFC Ventura performed outstandingly. He was often the target of jokes and ridicule by fellow soldiers who were natural athletes both during his time in the 82nd and in the WANG. Some guys just have a genetic pre-disposition to being heavier which is not helped by emotional eating and in some cases- isnt touched by their best efforts to stay in shape. During his 2nd tour, when his comrades were sleeping in on an off day, goofing off at MWR, etc- PFC Ventura was up with the sun and humping a full ruck, 240, and determination around Camp Taqaddum in an effort to lose weight. He could have accepted it, he chose to fight it. He is leaving the Washington NG now and plans to go to college. For those of us that have served- we have a right to question his ability to move and be effective as a member of a team and he had to prove himself as we all had to prove ourselves. For those that have never served, or have served but didnt step up to the plate as a volunteer for a combat job, shut your fucking mouths cus while he may be a poor example of what a soldier looks like, he has intangible qualities that make him one of the finest men I know.

I thought the idea of that picture is also that the Marine looked like a homo. The Army guy is fat, but at least he probably doesn't play the trouser trombone.

Edit: there they are.
