| how many rounds do soldiers who carry m60's carry with them? |

Quoted:
thanks. always wondered. are the rounds, not in the weapon, carried in ammo cans? Not unless they're in the back of a vehicle. The rounds are in bandoleers, you either put them in your ruck that way or you just put the belts in your ruck. The gunner loads the weapon with a contact belt and it's up to his AG to get him reloaded upon contact (and to start linking belts). |
| Depends on situation. I rarely would carry more than 300 rounds as an M60 gunner. 100 rounds of belted 7.62 is pretty heavy. I believe 100 rounds is about 5lbs. With just M60, 300 rounds, water, and you are already over 40lbs. Most of the ammo is distributed around the platoon. |
