How do you guys ensure your weapons are clean and rust free for your entire absence?

My dad and brother said they'd watch and maintain my shit while I am in Japan (4 year tour) and so far they are failing. Today my brother IMed me saying my Garand, Carbine and 1903 all have rust in the barrels and he only cleaned the 03 because he forgot how to disassemble the Garand and carbine.

to protect my shit from rust in the future what is a heavy duty and worry free coating I can slop all over my weapons to ensure they stay clean and rust free for the last two years of my tour? I go home on leave in July.

to say I am pissed would be putting it lightly

I have used this, www.boeshield.com/

It sprays on, dries to a waxy/oily film.

I left tools in a humid environment for 2 years with no rust. Its good shit.

You can also apply grease, but this stuff is a lot less messy.

Get some Cosmoline, Brownells still sells it and it works great. It's messy but easier to deal with than rust.SS

I went with HEAVY coat of CLP and sealed in vapor corrosion inhibiting bags...

Some of them are on their third year stored this way and still good to go.

Any info on the bags?  Thanks.

These are nice and thick (6 mil).
I twisted and used zip ties on the rifle bags to seal them up nice and tight.
You can probably find a better price on them shopping around.
There are other manufacturers also.
These are merely the kind I went with.

The bags have an added bonus.  Once you lube the hell out of the weapon you don't have to worry about excess lube going anywhere and getting on everything as it is in the bag...

Thanks for the info.  I do believe I'll order some for my next trip.

2T2,

This may be a bit late as you now have rust.

I have used RIG with good results.  While I was away for several years my weapons never developed rust.  They were in a safe in a basement.  No climate control at all.

Slather them down with RIG and you will be fine.
