First off, what branch are you looking at, and what are you hoping to do? Second, don't sit around waiting for a recruiter to call you. If you want in, go beat on their door. This the more you take the initiative to call and talk to them, the more interested you seen in joining. Thus the more they will help you |

I had been talking to a recruiter for about 2 months before I could get to MEPS (Navy). I would say to get an early start. It would have been better if I had started last fall but oh well. Damn 2 months? When i talked to a USMC recruiter it was on a Monday and i swore in 3 days later on a Thursday |

Damn 2 months? When i talked to a USMC recruiter it was on a Monday and i swore in 3 days later on a Thursday Well I think i first met with a recruiter on around April 12th. He gave me the SF-86 from to take home and called me the next week. I was a little overweight so I couldn't go in May. (They said that only male recruits can go down in the first two weeks of the month?) So near the end of May, I weighed less and went to MEPS. |
| I remember plenty of guys approaching 30 when I was going through the training pipeline for the Navy. They tended to be placed in supervisory roles when it came to that sort of thing. Besides lesser pay of a junior enlisted puke they didn't have a particularly bad time being with all the young knuckleheads. |

I almost joined when I was 18, I'm now 29 and hopefully I'll be able to swear in next week. Went thru MEPS last week and was "qualified, no job" available for the Navy, I'm hoping to get HM.
Since your time is limited, make sure to have any and all paperwork ready to go before talking to the recruiter. Birth cert, ss card, high school diploma/transcript, college transcript if any, list of cities where you may have gotten any traffic tickets(or worse), they may have you fill out an SF86, you can find them online usually and it may not be a bad idea to have that filled out already. Its basically your life info for the last 7-10 years. I had "almost" everything I needed the first time I talked to my recruiter so it made his job so much easier. Went to MEPS five days later. HTH, good luck. |

I went in on August 28th, and they wouldn't get me to MEPS until mid September, and then I went to Boot Camp in October. |

Unless you are just a real screw up they will not let you fail. If it's something you are absolutely sure about then do it now, because it will only get harder the longer you wait. |

we had a few guys who recycled to my BCT company when we phase changed into AIT because they all failed their final PT test. It was their last chance, if they failed again by the time we graduated they were going to get ELS'd (entry level separation) out of the Army. Our DS's smoked the crap out of them and they all ended up passing their final APFT. |
