are these any good?
would you rather have a mac book or an ipad? |

Quoted:
my kid wants an ipad but i think she needs a laptop (mac book) first what are the limitations of the ipad? The word processing programs are not nearly as robust as a regular computer. Typing can be awkward without a full keyboard. P.s. Posting this from my iPad. ETA. iPad doesn't support flash player so a lot of websites are still off limits. |

Quoted: Yes. I was a skeptic, until I got my hands on one. I'd rather have my mac book, but I don't see them serving the same purposes. Niche market. A couple of guys I know who are working on the road a lot love the battery life and netflix with 3g. I get that big time on my phone and rarely sleep without something playing instead of TV now. I really despise the class warfare apple hatred bullshit this site spews from angry little dick printer repair guys ( If you have the time to wait, I would look into it seriously before making the investment. If you need a laptop, Mac makes a fantastic line that wont have you rebooting or cycling back to a past install every few weeks. But laptop vs ipad are apples to oranges and you will pay for ownership. Any future macs I buy will be imac replacements and laptops because they just work. My PC get's it's workout for other things and the extra love a laptop needs vs my time isn't work it to me at this point in my life. Don't for a second think your ipad will replace your laptop for word processing unless you just scan the forums here and type an occasional email. EDIT: You answered your own question. If you think the kid needs a laptop to write with, get her one. |

Do they have unlimited data? If not, do they have problems of going over the limit by watching a lot of netflix? |

Take this info for what it is worth but trust me I know what I am talking about on this.
Unless you want to have an obsolete piece of kit on your hands come March, you better hold off at this point. The Gen 2 is going to much better than the Gen1, it will be the same size but have lots more power and features like dual cameras and be lighter and thinner with the new Retina display. I am so wanting one right now but once i found this out I am holding off. |

That is the sole reason I didn't buy one last week when I went into the Apple store and started messing with it. It really is a neat tool for what it is. Small, light, and great for surfing the web while traveling while still retaining the ability to function as a PC. |

I'm looking at the iPad but waiting for version2. I hoping for a 7" myself. Also there are other tablets coming to the market. The Adam. RIM Playbook & Samsung has the Galaxy Tab but it's even higher than the iPad so I don't think it's going to sell. I actually like the size of 7" from looking at the Tab on youtube. Price is going to be a factor.
I could find a reason to use one when I travel and for work. |

I'm looking to get one of those to replace my netbook. |

I LOVE my iPhone 4, but am still irked beyond belief at Apple's stupid proprietary BULLSHIT and their refusal to support Flash. If they would get the fuck over themselves, I'd be buying the family one for Christmas, regardless that our monetary situation would prefer I not do it. However... WHY THE FUCK WOULD I WANT TO PURCHASE SOMETHING TO BROWSE THE WEB THAT PURPOSELY REFUSES TO USE SOMETHING THAT 70% OF SITES ON THE WEB USE? God it fucking irritates me. That and iTunes, but I could get over iTunes if they'd just support Flash. As it is, I'm actually rooting for the other PC makers to develop a similar touchscreen tablet that DOES use Flash, Windows (FUCK Safari and Apple OS, too!) and just does what I want it to do. I still don't know WTF Apple is trying to accomplish by denying Flash, besides looking like elite libtard snobs - YES, I quite equate Apple fanboys to libtards; they're often one in the same. |

I still don't know WTF Apple is trying to accomplish by denying Flash, besides looking like elite libtard snobs - YES, I quite equate Apple fanboys to libtards; they're often one in the same. Flash sucks battery life, and introduces vulnerabilities into the OS that Apple wants to avoid. That's it, that's all there is. The 70% of the websites that use Flash are generally badly implemented and you'll cut your battery life by 3-4 times by using them. The ipad isn't just a web browsing device, it's designed to do quite a bit of things other than watch videos on flash only sites. Whenever I someday get an Android tablet, I'm highly unlikely to load Flash on it. |

Quoted:
Somebody on another board did a flash battery test using a netbook and said he only saw 10% difference. OS vulnerabilities isn't the only reason Flash isn't allowed on iDevices Completely different world between a netbook and an ARM based tablet. Those results are completely irrelevant to the discussion. |

My sister has an i-Pad and I thought it was really cool.. What I used it for was looking at pictures I took and making adjustments to settings to make the pics better, also it is a great way to store all the pics..Reason I didn't get one was because the HD is kind of small with hundreds of 5MB pics being stored in it. Is there another option I can look at ? What I need is something that is really portable, good resolution for looking at digital pics,a big screen and a lot of storage space.Surfing the net isn't important, just something to store and look at pics on and maybe load Photoshop on. |

Quoted: Quoted: An android based pad is going to stomp Apple. Maybe. Certainly among those of us who want a lot more control over our devices than Apple wants to grant, but probably not in the general consumer market. Aren't android phones outselling iphones currently? It really doesn't matter to me. I despise locked-down hardware. ETA: After using my droid X for awhile, I would seriously consider a 6-7" tablet/phone with a bluetooth headset. |

The only problem is the Tab without contract is suppose to cost way more than a standard iPad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjN7qF1-PWk&feature=fvsr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRUhDZJZhEQ&NR=1 |

Apple's market share simply isn't growing as fast. Both are robbing from RIM and MS, Android's just doing it faster. |

I could be wrong but I think Apple knows other tablets are coming to the market that will be just as capable as the iPad |

Yes, Android phones are the best sellers for now. http://www.businessinsider.com/iphone-att-credit-suisee-2010-9 If Verizon starts selling iPhones, maybe not for long. |

They're selling like hotcakes, exceeding expectations. They can do most of the things most people do on their laptop, and that's only going to improve. My only concern is the need to hold it up when I'm sitting. My MacBook Pro can hold itself. I'm sure there'll be one in my future, but I'll at least wait til the 2nd version. ETA: You don't have to commit to a data plan. You can buy it one month, and not the next. Excellent for travel. |

Quoted: Quoted: Considering you can make your Laptop boot up in the same amount of time it takes to get the iPad out of sleep mode and unlocked, I dont really see a question here. Huh? I own an iPad... that statement is ridiculous. As an owner of an Apple product, get used to it. |
|
Quoted: Been posting on mine for 6 months now. We use it every night and have not fired up the pc or mac laptops since. Internet, email, and grandkids entertainment are the biggest uses but it does much more. Plus it's the best e-reader out there, on top of everything else. The upcoming OS update will have wireless printing too. |

Quoted: The iPad is a cool gadget, but it's not even in the same category as an actual laptop or netbook. If they were half the price I'd own one, but at double the price of my netbook with less functionality, I'll pass. This, exactly. My wife's $300 netbook has far more functionality than a $600 iPad. Now, if the iPad ran OSX, had USB, a camera, and a flash card slot...I'd probably own one. But in it's current form, it's a useless toy. |

My "insider" said he had not seen anything that would give him the impression that there was going to be a 7" touch based device released by Apple within the next year. He gets advanced notice of stuff coming out since he works for a supplier in China. |
