I had a buddy that died right before we deployed and there is a song that for whatever reason I associate with him.  Whenever I hear that song I can't help, but think of him.  I have it on my computer so I won't forget.  I don't listen to it that much, because it's not really my style, but I figure so long as it's there I won't forget  him.  I guess it's not really a subconscious thing, just my way of making sure I remember no matter what.
