I beleive the data limit for the "unlimited " plan is 5gb. My phones usage indicator says I've received 7.5 gb. Is that for this month or over the lifetime of the phone?

If it's for the month, major whopper frakout time!

Quoted:
Month to month.

So that counter resets itself at the beginning of the month?

Darn, screwed...

Forget the phones "usage" indicator.  Check your ATT account.

Does that 7.5gb include wireless 'net usage?

The 5gb "soft cap" is for network data use only.

the one in the phone settings is total lifetime, get the ATT app, it shows monthly usage

It would be very difficult to reach 7.5GB in 1 month

The data usage you're seeing on your phone is probably since you last reset it.  NOT just the last month.

Log into your AT&T account and check it there.

There is no data limit specified in the "Unlimited" data plan for an iPhone on AT&T.

What frequently gets confused it that there is a 5 Gb limit in some of the other data services that AT&T offers. They have one called "Data Connect 5 Gb" for $60 a month for the Aircard, designed for a laptop on 3G and Edge data services.

Howard forums is a pretty popular Web Forum that seems to have a lot of users who have been around the block a few times. A current thread describes some the data usage from those members.

They are discussing using anywhere from a few Gb's per month up to 30 without any problems or comments from AT&T.

I've been a member there for several years, and there is not too much BS regarding the data use on the iPhone.
