so that i could impress a girl that i took out for fish tacos
i paid it back into my 401k afterwards |
Was she impressed?
(Or is this a movie quote and I'm just missing it) |
How do you show her the ATM receipt without looking like a tool?

Call me old fashioned, but I'd let them see my ATM receipt that proves my ass is nearly broke. If she stayed around, then maybe she's a keeper.
Does that make you shallow and a poor financial decision maker?
Yeah make her think you're made of more money than you really are, that'll go real well in the future.
What I have in my ATM represents about 5% of my net worth. Thats a odd move.

I cannot fathom a circumstance that would make you think it is OK to share this information.
OP consider sharing less in the future. |
What a tax penalty to pay.
OP if u were smart unwoupd have showed her a tactical pen. End of discussion.... |

Correct me if I'm wrong, I've never made a withdrawal from my 401k, but wouldn't that trigger a $2k (10%) penalty? Do you not have to pay the penalty if you pay it back in right away?
OP is a weirdo. |
I'm sure she thought you were a fucking tool once you worked it into the conversation and found a real guy down the road.

If I have to borrow money, I would borrow from my 403B Andy pay myself interest.

well then, since you are sharing, tell us about how you 'accidentally' left a bank statement in your car on your first date with your wife? View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Long-term, sure. But there can obviously be occasional reasons for a large balance in a checking account in the short term. When my wife and I went to look at cars for her a few years ago, we had moved a lot of money into our checking account, just in case we decided to buy a car that weekend. Which actually worked out, because we did end up buying a car for her that day, even though we were just planning on looking. |
Probably not enough to make her forget that you live in Mom's basement.
I just dug around and pulled the highest one from the garbage and left it on her coffee table or somewhere else. Or put my number on the back.
I was a poor sumbitch. |

anyone who keeps 20K in a checking account is not the sharpest tool in the financial shed. it's no wonder your date dropped you off at the end of your mom's driveway and sped away. ar-jedi View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Everyone is in a different financial position and what makes sense for one person, might not make sense for others. Sure, most Americans would be doing themselves a disservice to keep $20,000+ in their checking, but it also makes sense for many. I worked in a bank early in my career as a licensed private banker, handling both investments and banking for clients with $100k and up in investable assets; $20k+ sitting in their checking accounts was common...shit, three times that wasn’t uncommon. Wealthy people with expensive lifestyles tend to write larger checks and make larger ATM withdrawals than the average American (shocker, I know). When you are writing $36,000 alimony checks each month, or giving your two sons each an $80k/month allowance, or going on shopping trips to NYC just because, or just paying property/school taxes for your house, you tend to need considerable cash in your checking to clear those checks and pay those AMEX bills. |
