Is the ceramic plate only good for one center mass hit?  Could the vest stop AP 7.62 nato?

Not with the price of plates for the vest!

The plates will only stop 1 round of 7.62 nato at 25 yards. The kevlar vest will not stop it at all.
I know because of where i work, we are developing new bullet resistant materials. It was an eye openner to shoot an unarmoured humvee with a 22lr, bullit went all the way through the passeger compartment.
Vest only help with shrapnel or pistol shots, while the plates are only good for one hit.

I've seen one that took three 7.62x39 rounds. Made it about halfway through the plate.

Yep, 3 is probably the house limit.  If you're talking 7.62x39 steel-core AP, it may be a bit different.

Yes the plates are rated to stop 7.62 NATO Armor Piercing.

But recall that the certification process only requires ONE round to be stopped. I'd think that the plates would stop several hits if they weren't closely spaced together. But we need someone more knowledgeable to speak up.

I think I know why this question was asked....

How many rounds are you going to take before you start shooting back?

If your plan involves playing catch-the-shiny-bullet in the first place, you need a new plan.

If your plan is to take multiple hits from a .308 to the back you need a new plan!

I was just curious, seems like in a firefight in Iraq you might take multiple hits from FA fire.

The tuth is, there are multi-hit plates and single-hit plates. I think the GAMMA plates that the bulk of the Military uses will take one (1) hit of 762AP or six (6) hit of 762 ball.

Google is your friend....

One guy in our task force took four hits to the front plate, no penetrations. (AK)
