there was a thread a couple weeks back where people were saying that they were gonna bring their carry-on and F anybody behind them.

others said that it wouldn't be an issue if it was a real emergency, that nobody would take the time for their carryon, but if it wasn't, they would take the time to carry their shit out.

well, here's another example where the idiots did take the time to carry out when the plane was actively burning.

An Airjet Angola Embraer ERJ-145, registration D2-AJB, performing flight MBC-100 from Lubumbashi to Kolwezi (DR Congo) with 26 passengers and 3 crew, landed on Kolwezi's runway 29 but touched down before the displaced runway threshold, resulting in a main gear collapse, and came to a stop off the runway on its belly; the tail area burst into flames. The occupants evacuated. There were no injuries; all survived unharmed. However, the aircraft was completely consumed by the fire.

Apples:oranges…that’s a 3rd world country.

Sophisticates such as us would never be so…low IQ.

Oh wait, previous thread indicates 50% of us would retrieve their carry on before exiting.[crazy]

So part of the runway was missing due to construction (repaving) and they landed just short of that which took out the landing gear.

That was an eye opening thread into the absolute selfishness of people and disregard for safety standards and their fellow man. I'm still shocked by it, honestly.

You can see the runway right as they touchdown. Looks like giant potholes, ruts and debris.

My MacBook Pro*  is in my carry on, it is going to leave the plane with me, get over it. If they can let obese people on a plane, I can take my backpack with me if the plane crashes.

Plus, Apple may start no longer making them in black, I may have a collectors item.

I dont know why anyone is surprised.  People are generally selfish assholes.  So long as THEY are ok and less inconvenienced, they could care less about what is going on behind them with others.

All I know is if someone is fucking around with the overhead and in between me (or my family) and safety, they are getting run over.

All survived without injury.

Would it have somehow helped the situation if they let their belongings burn?

I talked to some controllers from South Africa a long time ago who said they routinely had passenger aircraft just "show up" after having flown from the middle east over the rest of Africa. No warning or flight plan much less a radar handoff.

I helped train some controllers from the middle east using SIMULATED aircraft in Sarajevo airspace. When one of them climbed an aircraft right through another one head on, targets merged, and obviously they both came out the other side BECAUSE THEY WERE SIMULATED and kept flying, he took that as proof that his clearance was good.

But there is a very real chance of it happening while some selfish asshole plays fuck fuck games with their carryon.  We saw how many selfish assholes there are in another carry on thread.

I've flown that airline, and a dozen or so other regional carriers all over Africa. Once, a LAM flight (Mozambique) was taxiing for takeoff, and a entire section of the windshield fell out of the cockpit. another LAM flight was taxiing in Pemba, and struck the only other aircraft at the entire airport, a SAAF C-130. I love it there.

Hard to tell without seeing up front, but that did not look like a stabilized approach to me. Some big power changes quite late. Those guys should all buy a lottery ticket.

Some good operators down there. Possibly not these guys.

Is anyone actually surprised by this?

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...

Humans on fire pillaging wrecked tankers off the shoulder of Johannesburg, bright as magnesium...

I rode in the back of minibuses with no lights, watched them all glitter in the dark like sparklers.

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain...

In a plane crash situation, are you even going to know what's going on, or the extent of the damage done to the plane?

No, you're not. So get the fuck off or I'm kicking you out of the way. IDGAF about your precious $2k laptop or $10k LV carryon tote bag.

That video hurt my teeth when it hit that.   Until I saw this I thought the tires must have blown.
Similar thing happened to a C-130 in iraq.   And I don’t think it was an ordinary cargo C-130, but some sort of electronic warfare version

They must want to short dick every airline commuter (they might be cannibals too)  in the Congo.

Quickly grabbing a bag from under your seat is probably fine. It's the morons that try to grab their luggage from the over head compartments that make things spicy.

This thread is a pretty good illustration of how we're all at the mercy of the dumbest motherfuckers on the planet - from someone serving a warrant at the wrong house but still shooting people inside, to driving down the road at 75 mph while texting and clobbering a family going to dinner.

"The IQ of the planet is a constant. The population is increasing."
