Got Discovery on while I websurf and they're running an episode of "Naked and Afraid".

I'm once again amazed that supposed "primitive survivalists" don't know how to use a freaking firestarter - just sawing away with their knife on the flint into a pile of loose tinder, and nary a magnesium shaving anywhere in sight.  Don't even get me started on the ones who try with a fireboard or bow or hand drill, and keep blaming their failures on the materials around them not being like the ones they're used to, or practiced with at home...

Repeat after me..."reality TV is 100% bullshit."   If they whipped out a 21st century fire starting component it would be as exciting to watch as a boy scout camping trip.

Oh, and here's "Survivalist" Bear Gryllis in between takes.:

sad as it is to say, i'd bet 7/8th of the U.S. population couldn't start a fire with a book of matches

I'd just stick some kindlin' between yo mama's sweet thighs, then tell her there's a Twinkie for her at the end of the driveway...

Voila! Profit!

I try a different form of fire making every time I BBQ. I've got pretty good at it. I don't have any twigs or small branches at my disposal, which leads me to use larger pieces, but placed in a different manner. I get a larger and stronger fire using less resources.

I refuse to watch any of those so called "survival shows" 100% BS.
It pisses me off when they kill a critter for TV and then between takes have a catered lunch.
Hunting for food is natural, hunting for TV is just wrong.

I get my bushcraft fix from Survival Lilly on Youtube.

Austrian chick who knows what she's doing, isn't afraid or disgusted by killing critters for food and has a tidy little gun collection.

Her dag is cool too.

I can make fire, I even taught some Boy Scouts how to use a fire drill.  Its a pretty cool skill to know.

I can make a primitive fire, my most desired way is to use a pear burner and get a blaze going in minutes.
