I have a friend that got into drug felony trouble about about 5 years ago (manufacture of meth). Since then, he did his time, staying clean , lives on his own with a well paying job.

 He has a new intrest in handguns, would he or I get in trouble if I take out him to a range to target shoot? I dont want to risk his or my freeedom?

 Thanks

I am pretty sure felons are not allowed to even handle firearms or ammunition... but I am not an authority on the subject by any means

If he's shooting, he IS in possession of firearms and/or ammunition. So no, he can't shoot.

Unless his rights have been reinstated he would be liable to catch a felon in possession charge. If his felony was prosecuted by the state he might be able to get his rights reinstated (depends on your state's laws). If it was federally prosecuted he's screwed unless obama pardoned him. You on the other hand would probably get chewed out but not catch a charge, unless the cop was in a pissy mood.

I don't know about MN State Laws, but I believe he can own and shoot black powder.

But he either needs to be reinstated or a Presidential Pardon if he wants to shoot legally classified firearms.

He has to be free and clear of probation and have his rights restored by a judge. Then he would be good to go.

I personally would not become involved with letting him know about my firearms, handling them, or shooting them unless I was 100% sure he was not a convicted felon or had his rights restored with solid proof.  Druggies have this ability to manipulate people, extract information,  and hurt you with it.

{Standard ARFCOM answer}If he's a felon, he should have been killed already, no matter if he was caught pissing against a tree, a felony is a felony{/Standard ARFCOM answer}

Record expungement (If he is qualified) is his only hope!

That goes WAY beyond the typical, recreational drug user.

He needs to be nowhere near your guns, EVAR!

I have mixed feelings about "felony" drug convictions, but IMO that guy is a low life no matter what way you look at it.  I don't think there will be much chance a judge will ever let him near a gun.
