How many times should a grown man be able to squat and stand upright? I'm 47 and can do it about 35 times before my thighs feel like they're going to explode.

Too many variables, especially at your age.

Are you already in decent shape? Prior injuries and/or wear and tear on the joints due to profession/etc.?

Out of shape, somewhat overweight. But good shape not that long ago. No injuries.

In all reality you should be able to do as many of anything as you want.  You're not "that" old, so  you should  feel comfortable with whatever number you pick that feels challenginging to you.  Look at the PFT requirements for your age and go from there.  You're probably out of shape, but that's typical of nearly all americans.

Now....Get your fatass up and go do something!!!!
