you cant make up your mind cause you dont have any inof...help me out guys.

ok, been throwing the idea around of getting a mini-mill and mini-lathe (7x12) just for some small stuff/experimenting etc.

seems grizzly sells both for about $500 each.

im also looking at Sherline's, Harbor Freight and Homier's line of tools. about the same price range.

so, anyone have anything to add to help my search?

thanks

Lesson learned the hard way. Get what you need the first time. Its cheaper and less disruptive than buying a compromise item then end up replacing it with what you really need.

Get a real "Bridgeport" type Knee mill.  With the economy in the toilet, and small businesses failing you should be able to find a "Real" mill at an attractive price.

Same applies to lathes. Don't skimp. Be sure the one you select has full threading capabilities. Also ask yourself if you will ever need to be able to cut a taper. These are things you must consider before you buy.

I'm not saying that you have to buy name brand, but most "table top" equipment lacks essential capabilities that will cause must frustration by there absence.

Well, I don't know too much about this sort of thing, however, my father swears by Grizzly.  He won't touch anything else.

generally i do get about the best i can (or cant sometimes) afford.  but, the case here is solely that i dont have room for any of the bigger mills/lathes right now.  table top will have to do for now...
