Just curious. Do you guys keep all of the boxes that your guns come in when new? If so why? Also where do you keep all of them?
The reason I ask is I am sick of looking at all my boxes and cant find a good place for them that I dont have to keep moving them, but I cant bring myself to throw them away.
Thanks

Do you keep your empty toilet paper rolls too?

Unless it came in a plastic case (like handguns), then cut off the end with the SN, and toss the rest!

Yep. I still have the factory shipping box for one of my Steyr AUG's.

Gotta keep the box. The AUG is still in it, so throwing it away isn't an option.

are you trying to brag or something

I used to until it became a fire hazard
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 5:13:43 AM EST
yup ....
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 5:15:24 AM EST
Let me think...

G26 - it's around somewhere
NAA G380 - still have that one
G30 - Don't remember throwing it out
Marlin 60 - bought from friend, didn't come with a box when I bought it
Trailside - I have the box and use it (recut some foam to hold a scope)
Mossberg 500 - also bought from friend
G23 - still have the box

I keep the manuals and cable locks in them, and the Glock boxes are sturdy, and I might find something to put in them someday. [cough]packrat[/cough]

I have to this point but when I move they'll be going bye-by.

I've got enough shit to deal with as it is and shifting EMPTY boxes from point A to point B is just dumb.

The plastic cases I'll obviously keep.

I know that some will say something about keeping the boxes if you ever sell you guns. Given the fact that I don't plan on selling my guns unless it's that or living in a cardboard box under the overpass, it's a moot point
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 5:16:43 AM EST
No.

I actually sold my empty plastic pistol boxes on ebay a few years ago. Idiots would pay $30 for Glock Tupperware.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 5:16:58 AM EST
nope
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 5:18:34 AM EST
No, but it's one of two rifles I've purchased that were NIB or LNIB, so I see no reason to chuck the box. Not like it takes up that much more room than it would just in a case or sock. As the box is numbered to the rifle's serial number, it also adds to it's collectors value, should I ever sell the thing.

YES.

I also used to keep the boxes for my stereo components, etc.

FInally broke that need, however, I do still keep the boxes for my guns. I still keep my Daisy 880 pump BB/Pellet gun in the box it came in!

PS. This thread needs a Poll!
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 5:20:41 AM EST
Let's face it, most of us gun nuts like to keep the original box the gun came in just so that we can say we have the original box the gun came in.

Yes, I keep the boxes. They are in the garage on a shelf.

That is all.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 5:21:15 AM EST
Yes, I even keep the plastic bags, any hang tags, twist ties, everything.
Why....because I'm a pack rat...I save everything. I do it with everything I buy.
I even laugh at myself for doing it but cannot stop. It's some kind of addiction or something.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 6:01:31 AM EST
No because I will never sale them and my wife complained of the clutter of empty boxes.

Wanna sell the box? I'll give you 40 dollars plus shipping, good deal on a box.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 6:03:48 AM EST
Hell, for that price, I'll even send you a brand-new XBox box

Yes, They are part of the package

Unopened, like the Aug boxes right?
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 6:08:13 AM EST

Link Posted: 8/20/2004 6:08:54 AM EST
Only if I plan to sell the gun at some future point.

Never said the AUG box was unopened, just that it still served it's storage purpose

Link Posted: 8/20/2004 6:11:46 AM EST
I always keep the box. That way if I take a notion to sell or trade later, when I say the weapon is LNIB, it really is like new, in the original box. To many gun folks (especially older ones around here), if you don't have the box and all orginal equipment that came with it, then your gun is worth at least $25 less to them automatically.

Nope.

Like motown, I cut off any info such as name, address, serial #, etc and then throw the box away.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 6:17:08 AM EST
Hell yes!

They'll help me buy my new Porsche in 2012
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 6:21:33 AM EST
Only one.

The box my Colt 45.cal Model 80 Combat Elite came is was a very cool looking box that I just couldn't throw away. The rest went out with the trash.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 6:27:30 AM EST
I leave the boxes in my parents' attic. There's no room at my apartment, and they're not using it (joists arent big enough to store anything heavy up there).

I have only kept two boxes:

*Springfield Armory M1911A1 box
*Ruger PC9 box [used to store a spare wooden SKS stock]
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 6:36:40 AM EST
The plastic ones stay. The cardboard ones get tossed unless I have a use for them, like the Ruger 10/22 box that has the original stock and barrel in it so I can ship them when they are sold.

Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

All of the guns I’ve purchased so far have came in carrying cases, not boxes. I save them in case I need a case for something, or god forbid if I ever have to sell them. Presently I only have two guns, and I can’t see me selling them at any point ever in the future.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 6:38:28 AM EST
Just three - the boxes by NIB NFA Beretta BM-59 and Vector standard/mini UZI's came in.

I even have boxes for some guns that I no longer own.

Link Posted: 8/20/2004 7:12:57 AM EST
I used to not keep them, but now that I have space I do. Selling them on E-Bay sounds like a great idea. I have enough that I could buy another gun.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 7:13:27 AM EST
If you throw away the orignal box your gun came it, it will be the most expensive cardboard box you've every thrown away.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 7:23:09 AM EST
I keep them all. Manuals, receipts and other paperwork go into the gun file, and all the cardboard boxes go up to the garage attic. The wife always asks why I keep them. Not having a good answer, I reply, "Because I might need them later. Hey, you wanna go to the mall?" <end of topic>
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 7:52:29 AM EST
Yes.

I made $100 more when I sold my post ban Colt M4 MT6731 because of the box.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 7:54:13 AM EST
Yes, just one of my quirks.

My dad still has the box from his Winchester 290 that he bought in 67 for $47.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 8:00:56 AM EST
I still have the original box for the Kel-Tec. For the Beretta, I have the plastic case, but I think I threw away the outer box. I threw away the AK box because it was blank and useless.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 8:09:43 AM EST
Yes, I try to but my wife keeps 'hiding' them...
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 8:33:19 AM EST
None of my handguns came in the original box-they all were purchased by me in plastic cases. Even the 357mag I bought from a pawnshop.

I have kept all the boxes for long guns I've bought for two reasons: We have multiple storage units because of our business so they're not in the way or taking up space around the house, and heaven forbid I ever have to send one back to the manufacturer I have the original box/shipping carton so they can't claim I shipped it in a substandard carton or any shit like that.

Actually, one has already come in handy. A buddy of mine back in Missouri had a 1903 Springfield '06 that he inherited from his father (it was SWEEEEET too-professionally sporterized, a real tack driver) and he loaned it to HIS son-and unfortunately his son's house burned down with the '06 in it.

I was in a local gun shop here and spotted a sporterized1903A3 for a good price, bought it and had it transferred to him. I was able to use the box that my Ruger M77MKII '06 came in, it fit perfectly.

Just for boxes for the preban Colts.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 8:39:16 AM EST
I used to until the closet was full of them. I had one hell of a bonfire.

Only the boxes for the guns that I've bought new, and I also don't know why. But, as most of my guns were bought used, or scatch built, there's only a couple.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 12:41:27 PM EST
Nope, just more stuff to pile up. I've saved one box for a NFA gun just because. The rest are out the door.
Link Posted: 8/20/2004 12:53:03 PM EST
