Is there a trick to getting the drums back on? The adjustment arm is in as far as it will go and I can not get the fucking drum back on. I've been at it for over an hour. Thanks in advance.

Is the parking brake engaged?

Did you replace the brake shoes? If you didn't turn the drums, it's possible that there's a ridge on the outer lip of the drum and it won't clear the shoes. Also, make sure that the shoes are actually retracting when you turn the adjusting screw.

Are you sure you have the right shoes? Are you sure the shoes are all the way against the adjustment bar and not jammed up? Just curious but did you turn the drum?

If the adjuster is fully in, and the shoes are seated in their positions properly,
the drums should fall on easily.
Are you sure the adjusters are in and not out?
Emergency brake not set?
New drums?
Are they the right drums?

No parking brake. New shoes and old drums. I can feel a small lip I'll try grinding it off.

Please post pics of this unconventional handiwork. I'd rather sand the shoes down some.

The lip is probably rust. Try scraping instead of grinding.

I understand doing things on the cheap, but drums are only about $20 each.
Odds are they were needing to be replaced anyway.

I've given up turning any thing, drums or rotors. New hose and calipers usually.
